Chapter 7 Breaking of the Fellowship
Frodo
I had wandered off, away from the others, seeking solitary and peace.
I reached a great statue and wandered around the area.
A voice broke through my thoughts, "None of us should wander alone. You, least of all." I looked up to see Boromir, a stack of firewood gathered in his arms. "So much depends on you," he continued nonchalantly.
I stayed quiet and he looked up, "Frodo?"
I didn't answer him and I looked at the ground.
"I know why you seek solitude. You suffer. I see it day by day," he walked closer to me. "You sure you do not suffer needlessly?" I looked up at him. "There are other ways, Frodo. Other paths we might take."
I finally answered, cutting him off from saying anything further, "I know what you would say. It would seem like wisdom but for the warning in my heart." Boromir frowned, his eyes glinting dangerously, fear gnawed at me and I stepped away from him cautiously.
"Warning? Against what?" He began to move closer to me, this time at a faster pace.
"We're all afraid, Frodo."
I backed away further, fear now evident in my eyes that I tried to hide.
He continued, still moving towards me, "But to let that fear drive us, to destroy what hope we have, don't you see that is madness." He tried to convince me.
I blinked away in fear but kept my voice steady, "There is no other way."
He stared at me intensely and his demeanour broke, "I ask only for the strength to defend my people!" He threw down the fire wood angrily as he spluttered.
I looked startled and back away a bit further. He continued with a dangerous, pleading look, one of a madman, "If you would lend me the ring," he began to plead hopefully.
I immediately answered, "No."
Boromir stumbled back, only a little, "Why do you recoil? I am no thief."
"You are not yourself," I answered evenly, hiding my trembling hands.
His face immediately darkened and said dangerously, "What chance do you think you have? They will find you. They will take the ring. And you will beg for death before the end!" He started shouting and I began to walk away. He was certainly not in his right mind.
However, my actions only enraged him further, "You fool!" I turned back, now not bothering to hide my fear as he broke into a chase, "It is not yours, save by unhappy chance! It could have been mine!"
I ran but stumbled over a tree root and panicked, he lunged at me with a vengeance. I fell to the ground and tried desperately to crawl away. Fear ripped through me.
As we fell, he yelled angrily at me, trying to grasp onto my cloak and grab the ring. "It should be mine! Give it to me!"
"No!" I yelled back defiantly as we struggled.
I finally ended up slipping the ring on my finger. Vanishing.
Boromir
I stared, shocked. The hobbit had disappeared.
Instead I opted to shouting at him,"I see your mind! You will take the ring to Sauron. You will betray us!" I looked around desperately. "You will go to your death! And the death of us all! Curse you! Curse you! And all the halflings!" I roared at the top of my lungs and scrambled up in a hurry but tripped and fell.
