Most people spend their Sunday mornings sleeping in, having a lazy day spent in their pyjamas. But, I'm not most people. I spend my Sunday mornings training, from dawn till dusk, looking into the eyes of Sensei Jordan. Why? You ask. Well thats a damn good question, my family is a part of a secret government organisation called the DAA(which stands for the Department Against the Activist's) that is in war with another group of people called , yep you guessed it, The Activist's, who want to take control over the world, they go crazy over power. Families with the DAA have to give their first born child up for the DAA, not like orphan give up, but hand my future to them. And I'm the first born child of the Martinez family. I am April Martinez, I am 14 years old, and this is my story.

"You did well today April, your defence has really improved recently. We'll work on your offence this afternoon, good-bye April," Sensei Jordan said, as I picked up my belongings from the bench.

"Ok, see you after school," I replied, quickly running out the room. As I arrived at the bus stop, the bus arrived, I climbed on and scanned my card.

"April over here!" Willow - my best friend - shouted from the back of the bus. I scurried over to her, and sat down. Not many people took the bus here in Wessington Springs, most people walked, the town was so small you could walk anywhere, I'm pretty sure it only has one bus. Our population is something like 950 people? Overall. But my Dojo was on the opposite side of town to the school - the only school - so taking the bus is easiest.

Today it was only Willow and I on the bus, sometimes some kid called James, who's like 4 years younger than me takes the bus when he is at his mums house. And the only reason I know that is because everyone knows everyone here. There are about 20 people in each year grade at our school.

It was about 15 minutes before we pulled up to our little school. Willow and I stepped out of the bus, and walked over to the school. It was the beginning of term, meaning we got new timetables. Willow and I stopped at the office on our way to the locker bay to pick them up.

There we two classes going at a time for each year grade, so in other words we have really small classes consisting of 10 kids in a classroom.

Willow and I had a few classes together, but for the first time, we didn't have all our classes together. Not that it bothered me that much, a bit like I said before, everyone is friends with everyone. Except the wannabe group, which consists of Megan, Ash, Gail and Lou. But we just ignore them.

Willow and I parted ways and went to first period. Summer break had just finished, and most people go away for them, mainly because theres not much to do here. So everyone had a story to tell. But me. The entire summer break, I'd trained. No one knows about my spot in the DAA, everyone just thinks I'm obsessed with karate, they don't know I'm practically forced. Don't get me wrong, karate is great fun, but after doing it all day every day since I was able to stand, can get a little boring after a while. But theres nothing I can do, complaining doesn't give me anything, I'd given up on that thought when I was 10, I just keep my mouth shut, and keep my head held high.

Everyone was talking when I entered class, most people said 'hi' to me. I scanned the room for someone to sit next to, there were two empty spots next to Rose, so I decided to sit next to her.

"Hey April," Rose smiled.

"Hey Rose," I replied, with a little wave. But before our conversation to continue, our teacher - Mr Tenec - entered the classroom. The chatter stopped as the teacher addressed the class.

"Hello everyone, I am Mr Tenec, for those of you who don't know me. I am your new mathematics teacher. This year we'll be covering a few things, but mostly focusing on trigonometry," he said. Everyone groaned at that last part. Trig? Really?

"I know, I know. You're all thinking, can't be just do 1+1? We don't need trigonometry? But trust me, you'll thank me later. Anyway, there is a new child joining our class today, he'll be here any minute," Mr Tenec said, glancing at the clock. Everyone looked around. We haven't had a new kid in a few years? A few seconds passed before our Principal Dr. Pagel knocked on the door. Everyone turned in their seats and faced the door.

"Come in," Mr Tenac called.

It was like a ripple effect went through everyone as they got a look at the new kid.I had to move around a bit in my seat, to see around Dr. Pagel. And, oh my...
