Imagine, the most well proportioned man you've ever seen, muscly but not OTT. Now imagine him, a little shorter, with a younger face, and that is the new kid. He looked photo shopped to perfection. He had beautiful light blue eyes, like someone had gone and placed jewels there. He had brunette hair, that had the scruffy look. He was wearing loose jeans, and a plain black shirt. Everyone was staring open mouthed at him, I'm pretty sure I was too. And thats saying something, I never allowed myself to look at guys that way, mainly because that just made me miserable, because I know it'll never happen for me, not with my way of life.
He looked around the room, I'm guessing for an open seat, because he started staring at me, I soon realised that was because the only open seat was next to me. Why? I tried to give a little smile, but I probably looked like a drooling goof.
"Everyone, meet your new classmate, Jed Octavis," Dr. Pagel announced. Jed gave a small smile and wave.
"Please make him welcome, its not every day we get a new classmate," Dr. Pagel added as he left the room.
"Welcome Jed, there's a spot there next to April," Mr Tenac said pointing towards me. I smiled, and pulled my books off the vacant desk. Jed walked towards me, and swiftly sat down.
"Hey," he whispered to me. His voice was beautiful, sweet, yet powerful. And all I could think was, he's talking to me! He's actually talking to me! But as soon as that thought entered my head, I pushed it out. I put on my best smile, and replied lamely with; "Hey."
After that class started, and we began work. I hate trig.
As the end of class loomed, people started gathering up their books.
"Ok class, remember your homework, I expect it done by tomorrow, no exceptions" Mr Tenac announced.
Science flew by, and soon I was making my way to the cafeteria for recess.
"April!" Willow shouted from our corner of the cafeteria. Beside her was Rose, Dee, Tam, Riley and Isaac. I walked over to them, and took a bite out of my apple.
"Have you guys seen the new kid?" Dee squeaked.
"Jed?" Tam questioned.
"Yeh, he sat next to April in math!" Rose added.
"OMG! Really?" Tam wailed.
"Yeh," I nodded, taking another bite of my apple.
"Did he say anything to you?" Dee asked.
"Um, well he said 'hey'" I answered.
"I am so jealous!" Tam continued.
After that, the conversation about Jed stopped, and everyone started talking about summer break. I zoned off, and started thinking about what Sensei Jordan would make me do this weekend? Until footsteps sounded near our table. I quickly zoned back into the conversation.
"Hey April," Jed said, I jumped a little, startled by his sudden appearance.
"Oh, Jed, hi," I replied. All my friends stared open mouthed at him.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you," he replied.
"No, its fine," I said, smoothing a hand over my thighs.
"Is it ok if I sit with you guys?" He asked.
"Yep," Dee answered for me.
"Sure," I added after. I moved over, to make room for him.
"So, Jed, tell us about yourself," Isaac asked.
"Well, my family and I moved here on business. Um, I like boxing?" He laughed.
"No wonder you and April get along!" Willow said.
"Huh?" He asked.
"She's crazy abut karate," Riley laughed.
"Really?" Jed asked, turning in my direction.
"Yeh," I answered.
"How long have you been doing karate," Jed asked.
"Since I can remember," I joked.
"Literally," Willow added.
The conversation continued, we learn't a bit about Jed, he comes from New York City. He's an only child. Loves the outdoors and just some other random facts about him.
"So, is everyone free this Saturday?" Willow asked everyone.
"Yeh," Isaac replied.
"Ditto," Riley added.
"Yip," Dee chirped.
"Yep, how come?" Tam asked.
"Yes," Rose continued.
"I want all of us to go to the movies," Willow answered
"That sounds great!" Dee giggled.
"April? Jed?" Rose questioned.
"Sure," Jed smiled.
"April? Please, c'mon!" Tam begged.
"Ok, fine, I'll ask Sensei Jordan for the arvo off," I huffed.
