I waited in that room for 10 minutes before putting my heels back on and slipping out the room. I found Hillary and Marcus in the ball room chatting with another couple. I walked over to them, and did my best to tug on Hillary's hand without startling her. She looked down at me, and must've noticed my face, because she interrupted the other women mid sentence.
"I'll be right back, sorry" she said politely. She guided me over to a corner in the room.
"April, what did you see?" Hillary asked.
"I eavesdropped on an Activist meeting," I started. "Today isn't going to go well," I continued.
"How so?" Hillary asked.
"Whoever doesn't follow the Activist's are going to be taken away," I replied. Hillary paled.
"I've got a plan, it may or may not work," I said.
"I'll do anything," Hillary said sternly.
"You don't have to," I said.
"What are you going to do?" She questioned.
"Actually, I might need you. I need you to cover for me while I go to the fire alarm. I'm going to alter it, so that I can trigger it from in the meeting. So that before he announces what happens, the meeting will end." I said.
"And then what? He'll just re-schedule the meeting to another day?" She asked.
"I'll take care of that. When the alarm goes off, try help get everyone out. The Activist's spotted a DAA member yesterday, and aren't expecting any to be here today. Can you do that?" I asked. She nodded stiffly. "Now go. I only have 10minutes to alter the alarm," I said. She turned around and slowly walked back to the crowd. I could just see her whispering to Marcus, and him stiffening. He turned his gaze, and it locked on with mine. He gave me a stern nod, before turning back to Hillary.
From there I went back down the hall, looking for the fire alarm. I saw some waiters along the way, I sorta wanted to walk up to them and be like, 'hey, where's the fire alarm?' but that would raise suspicions. So I just walked around almost aimlessly, until I finally found it in the corner across from the bathrooms. When no one was walking by, I quickly slipped my dagger out of my purse and opened the little box and inspected what was inside. There were cables. Lots of them. And a little control pad. Jackpot. I finally found the wire I was looking for held my breath and slowly cut it. I waited a few seconds for the fire alarm to go off, but it didn't. I had just altered the fire alarm, and it worked. Wow. But I had to hurry before someone noticed me. I unhooked the control pad, and prayed that went I clicked it later the alarm would go off. I slipped that and my dagger back into my purse and walked back to the ball room.
"There you are Alexandria," Marcus smiled. "We were just talking about you," Marcus added nodding towards another fancy looking person.
"Hi, sorry Dad I was in the bathroom. Took me a while to find. This place is massive," I giggled. Or at least tried to. But before anyone could continue that same guy from yesterday, called us to silence and guided us to the conference room. We all took our assigned seats as Wayne walked into the room. I had to wait for the perfect time.
"Good evening everyone. For anyone who didn't attend yesterday, I am Wayne Latrum leader of—" He said, but mid sentence I pushed the button, and the alarm blared through the room. Yes! It actually worked! Score for me!
Everyone jumped and started running towards the door. I stood and eyed Wayne.
"Everyone, please calm down, and exit the building in an orderly fashion!" The dude who called us in shouted. But no one was listening. They were all trying to squeeze out the room. Wayne started walking towards what I guessed must be a secret door, I followed carefully, hoping there weren't extra Activist's on the other side. The door was opened just a crack and I peered out. Wayne was standing in an empty room with a few couches and tables scattered around. My biggest advantage was the element of surprise. And, I wasn't tall, which mean't people didn't expect me to be a threat. I quickly tried to make myself look vulnerable. And pushed the door open, Wayne looked in my direction. I buried my head into my hands and tried to make crying noises.
