I have been in New York City for three days now, and I haven't even met my 'parents' yet. All I'd done was learn how to notice things in people. Everyone was calling me Agent Martinez, and I was still getting used to it. Every second I missed Milly and Willow, I missed everyone. The only comfort I got was going to the gym in my free time. I hadn't gotten to see outside the building I've been in for the past few days yet. And I'm alone here.
I had just woken up from a nightmare, in it I had run away, and Milly had joined the DAA in replacement of me, and she'd hated me for doing that to her. It was the same dream I had every night. I turned on the lamp on the bedside table, and checked what time it was. 2am. I should've been tired. But I felt wide awake. I pulled on my running shorts, and a sports bra and wandered down to the gym. I hit the treadmill. And hard. I pushed harder than I think I ever have before. When I finally got off, I was covered in sweat, I checked the screen and almost thought I was still dreaming. 25km in 72minutes! I was still awestruck, when I heard slow clapping coming from the corner. I quickly turned around to where I thought the sound was coming from.
"Hello?" I said.
"Well done Agent Martinez, very impressive. You seem very fit and strong, " the voice was deep and low. A few seconds passed before the figure walked out of the shadows.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"I am Tony Locta, head of the New York City DAA group," he said with a smile. He had brunette hair with way too much gel in it, dark eyes, and a fancy navy suit. "I must say, I am very impressed by your fitness. You are about as fit as some of our top agents, I see great potential in you," he continued.
"Um, thanks?" I answered. Unsure if that was a compliment I should accept or not?
"Today we would like to send you to your assignment," He said starting to pace in front of me.
"I thought this was it?" I asked.
"Here we were just preparing you, you've been taught to fight already by Agent Jordan, and here you've learn't to interpret information, we feel you're ready" he announced.
"Ok," I mumbled under my breath.
"Marcus and Hillary Nolton have a daughter called Alexandria already, though she as never had her face shown to the public before, which is why this is perfect for us. No one will notice the difference in her appearance. Everything you need will be provided for you, you can take the bag you brought here if you want, its completely optional. We will be leaving at 8am, which is in about four and a half hours," he said glancing at his watch.
"Ok," I agreed.
"This is a very important case, we've never sent a young agent like you out to such a big case before, please don't let us down," he said before leaving the room. What was I supposed to do for four hours? I could go back to my room, and do nothing. I could stay here? That sounded better. So for the next four hours I swapped between all the different machines in the gym. Jumping from one to another. When I thought I'd done enough I was sweating like a pig. I went back to the room. 7:30am. I had half an hour to have a shower and pack. Meh.
Once I'd had a shower, I started packing. What was I supposed to wear? I decided on my navy jeans, and white shirt. I checked the clock once more, 7:55am. I swung my bag over my shoulder, and made my way to the meeting area. This was it. I was going to my first assignment. This is where my own hell began.
Tony was in the meeting area when I got there.
"Did you enjoy the rest of your morning in the gym?" Tony asked. I nodded and followed him down the hall, and eventually out the building. The sun was beaming when we stepped outside, it took a while for my eyes to adjust to the harsh light. We got into a black limo. It was all so fancy. It was about a 10minute drive before we pulled up to a mansion. A man - who I guessed was a servant - opened the door for me and took my bag from me. As I stepped out of the car, two people dressed in fancy clothing started walking down the steps. A girl who looked about my age followed closely behind.
"Good Morning Tony, and you must be Agent Martinez," the man sad. I smiled.
"Good Morning," I replied.
"Agent Martinez, this is Marcus and Hillary Nolton, and behind them is Alexandria," Tony said.
"Hello Agent Martinez, and welcome to our home," Hillary announced spreading her arms out around her. This was there house? Was I staying here? Wow. This place looked bigger than a hotel.
"I unfortunately must be going, Agent Martinez, your first meeting you will be attending is this afternoon at 4, Hillary and Marcus have your attire arranged for you," Tony said, and he got back into the limo and drove off. Well.
"Well come on in!" Hillary smiled. I followed them into their mansion of a home. The inside was beautiful. Tiled floors, chandeliers hanging in every room.
"Alexandria, meet Agent Martinez," Marcus said as the young girl approached.
"Hello Agent Martinez," she smiled. "You can call me April, I don't mind," I laughed.
"Well, April, Alexandria will show you to your room," Hillary said. Alexandria beamed and lead me to a flight of stairs.
"Your home is beautiful!" I said as I took in all the features.
"Thank you, oh and you can call me Alex, Alexandria sounds to fancy and professional for my liking," she laughed pulling a silly face. "Anyway, you're an agent! And you're like how old?" She beamed.
"I'm 14," I answered.
"Wow, thats awesome! Can you like, fight?" She asked pretending to karate chop the air.
"Uh, well I've done karate for a while, so yeh," I smiled.
"Thats so cool," She said to herself. If only I had that attitude towards this life.
"Anyway, heres your room," She smiled pointing towards a closed door. I opened the door, and almost had a heart attack.
It. Was. Massive.
All white walls, a walk in robe, a massive bed in the middle of the room, with the curtain things hanging over it. There was even an ensuite! And a massive desk too - with papers on it already. It was like a palace bedroom. Damn.
"Steve brought your bag in here when you first arrived," Alex said from behind me.
"And there are clothes in the closet for you, on the desk is a sheet on what attire is required from you for each meeting. And some other business related stuff," she continued pulling another face at the 'business' statement.
"Thank you," I said as I took in the features of the room.
"Its gets really boring here, is it alright if I spend time with you?" She asked.
"Of course," I smiled. I wandered around the room for a minute or two, while Alex just stared at me. The walk in robe was full of clothes. And they were my exact size. Creepy. My room itself could fit in there. In the back corner was a black back. I walked over to it, and opened it. My heart stopped.
