Sakharpuda (Engagement)

Vedanti hardly slept for 2 hours. Her mother came & waked her up. She woke up & adjusted her hairs to hide the marks on her neck.

Pranita :- Vedu beta tayyar ho jao jaldi.. Rasme shuru hongi thodi der main.

Vedanti got ready by wearing a blue coloured lehenga. She did some make up & went downstairs. All her relatives gave her compliments. She was ready with an artificial smile on her face. Their Engagement was not a big ceremony. Only Families of both Sumedh & Vedanti were present. Vedanti was meeting with all guests when sid came. She went towards him.

Vedanti :- soye nai raatbhar..? Ro rahe the kya..?

Sid :- Aaj tumhara Sakharpuda hai phir bhi tumhara chehra bhi waisahi dikh raha hai.. Tum bhi raat bhar ro rahi thi na..?

Vedanti Remembered how Sumedh behaved with her last night.

Vedanti :- chalo mere saath.

Sid :- kaha..?

Vedanti took him to her room. As soon as they entered Vedanti hugged him tightly & started crying. Sid hugged her back & also started crying. They were continuously crying for 5 minutes.

Vedanti :- Sid mujhe Sumedh se bahot dar lagta hai.. Wo bahot badal chuka hai.. He is a monster.. Plz mujhe usse bacha lo. Pata hai kal main usse baat karne ke liye gyi thi to usne kya kiya..?

Vedanti turned back placed all her hairs on shoulders & showed him the marks on her neck.

Sid :- horrible.. Yeh usne kiya tumhare saath..? Oh god..

Sid was in shock. Vedanti told him about Amit Pandit.

Sid :- what..? Wo amit se shaadi kar rahi hai..? Unbelievable.

Pranita called Vedanti.

Pranita :- Vedu.. Sumedh aa gya hai.., Vidhi shuru karne hai.. Aao niche.

Vedanti looked towards sid.

Vedanti :- Ab mujhe koi nai bacha sakta sid.. But still I Love U.. Main dikhau ya na dikhau par Tum hamesha mere dil main rahoge.. I don't think ki main kabhi bhi Sumedh se pyaar kar paungi....

Sid talked in between.

Sid :- shhh.. Aisa mat kaho... Tum iss relationship ko apna hundred percent do... Sumedh ka real natire aisa nai hai.. Tum aisa mat kaho.. Tumhe usse pyar karna padega.. Tabhi tum use badal paogi.. Tabhi wo hamara pehle wala Sumedh ban jayega.. & I knw tum ye kar sakti ho.. Hmm..?

Vedanti :- hmm.. I will try my best.. I am sorry sid.. Main apne aap ko kabhi maaf nai kar paungi..

Sid :- It's ok.. Yaha tum galat nai ho.. Halaat galat hai.. Abhi jao.. Sab wait kar rahe hai..

Vedanti went downstairs. & sat in mandap. Rituals started. Firstly Sumedh's mom came & gave her a packet of Sugar indicating that she is always welcome in their home. Then VM & Anuradha placed wet sindoor on her forehead & sticked a coin of one rupee on that. It indicates that from now onwards Vedanti is 'lakshmi' of their house. & lastly They gave her Shagun that includes a nauvaree saree , a nath (Traditional marathi nosering) and so many necklaces & jewellery. Anuradha filled her 'oti' (a traditional ritual in which a women gave another women some rice, a supari & some fruits. The women who is accepting it must accept it in her pallu. It indicates that her 'oti' (literally can be translated as uterus in women's body) will always remain filled. Means her womanhood always remain everlasting).

Now vedanti was supposed to came back after some time wearing her new saree & jewellery. Now it was turn of Sumedh. Sumedh sat in mandap & did all same rituals what Vedanti has done. Vedanti came back in mandap. She was looking gorgeous in that attire. Nauvari saree , chandrkor bindi, nath , green bangles, bajuband , kamarband , all traditional jewellery & Mundavlya (a traditional jewellery made of pearls bride & groom wear on forehead in Marathi weddings) & the most important the beautiful payal that Sumedh had gifted her. That payal was adding glory to her nauvari saree look.
