☠ Chapter Sixty-Eight ☠
➳ ARIELLE'S POV
Everything happened so quickly.
When Zayn asked me to go on vacation with him, I was thinking this would be something that'd be planned out over a week or more. Alas, the next morning after he'd asked, he was online searching for flight deals and vacation packages for as soon as possible.
All of which he refused to let me see. He was keeping it a secret from me—our destination—because he said he wanted to surprise me. All I knew was that he was looking to stay somewhere hot, despite the fact that with summer coming, Miami would probably begin being just as hot, if not hotter.
This meant I needed to start making plans to go away. Firstly, I had to ask Chef Jules for time off. For whatever reason when I asked about it, he was super excited—even asking if he could come with—nevertheless giving me all the time I needed without any issue.
Which made me realize he's basically the dream boss and now I never want to have to leave Vinum.
Zayn had to make plans for Sky, since a dog obviously can't take care of itself. Zayn almost broke down at that, since his mother always took care of his pets in the past—I didn't dare remind him of the fact that his mother watched Sky the last time the two of us went away for fear that he'd really lose it. Eventually, I'd ended up asking Nyjah and he agreed to watch over Zayn's house and little Sky, so it worked out good.
All that was left was ensuring we were both packed. I wasn't entirely sure of what to pack, but I had a decent idea. As I mentioned earlier, we were going somewhere hot, so I knew to pack articles of clothing that reflected that—swimsuits, shorts, sandals, and other things as such.
The difficult part was not knowing specifics. Like, if we were going somewhere South American, I'd be sure to put things in my suitcase that would protect me from bugs. Or, if we were going somewhere European, I'd be tempted to bring warmer clothes because it's further north and I'd worry of the possibility of cooler weather.
It was frustrating, but then again, I think I tend to overthink things sometimes.
Over the last few days that I've really been able to think about it, I can't help but feel like he's taking me to Mexico. It would make sense. He's been there before—as Nyjah told me, he used to illegally transport cars across the border, so he obviously knows some of the country. I ended up packing with that in mind.
At one point, I was tempted to just look at his internet history and finally learn the truth, but I couldn't do it. I could see just how excited he seemed to take this trip and I couldn't do that to him. I truly think the whole process of planning the trip and getting hyped up about it helped him forget about the loss he recently suffered. I honestly think that—in his own way—preparing to go away has helped him grieve a little easier.
