☠ Chapter Seventy-Two ☠
➳ ZAYN'S POV
When we woke up this morning and prepared for today's activity, it was bittersweet. We both knew that there was only today and tomorrow and then it was time to go home. Time to go back to reality.
The first activity for today was a hike. We got to hike across volcanic rock near the beach. It wasn't hard—as the incline wasn't very sudden—but I still found myself getting a little winded and had a hard time catching up to Arielle. The smoking is probably the reason for that because I'm fairly active with my boxing and whatnot.
It was fucking awesome seeing the volcanic rock and the ocean that expanded around us. It was so crystal blue and literally all we could see. I couldn't spot an ounce of shoreline—just water for miles and miles.
I ended up taking a lot of photos of the view and of the journey—one of which was a selfie of Arielle and myself and has now become my lockscreen. It was amazing, with the turquoise water as the backdrop and a steep rocky cliff behind us. In the photo, Arielle's arms were wrapped around my torso from behind, with her chin resting on my shoulder and a wide grin on her face.
It was the perfect example of how well this vacation is going, and the perfect representation of where our relationship is right now. It's amazing how much closer we've gotten in the last few days, along with how much more connected to her I feel. We're in a very blissful stage right now—we're constantly holding hands, calling each other pet names, kissing whenever we have the chance, and there definitely isn't a shortage of stolen glances.
After our big hike, we went back to the beach because it was time for the activity we're doing right now—kayaking. Together, we share a two-person, transparent bottom kayak and we're paddling along a big cliffside, but we've gotten distracted because underneath the waves we can see a school of fish swimming.
Arielle refuses to paddle until the fish pass because she's so in awe of the creatures. But I can see that the sun is beginning to set already and that we should probably begin the journey back to return the kayak and eat some dinner. "Babe," I mumble as she ignores me completely, staring at the bottom of the kayak, so I repeat myself.
She finally tears her gaze away from the fish she's been watching. "Hm?" She hums in a question, looking at me with a smile.
"I said we should probably head back," I turn to look at the sun sitting low in the sky to make my point and she follows my gaze, pouting slightly.
"Alright, I guess we should be back before it's dark." She takes a final gaze at the fish below us before grabbing her paddle. I wait for her to prepare before the two of us start paddling back home. We sit quietly, gliding along the water for several minutes just enjoying each other as much as the warmth from the sun, and the views around us.
