2 years later.

Yasuko tied her appron around her back. She opened the door of the little coffe shop and knelt to write the menu on the black board. She looked around her. The streets were busy, people were walking up and down, a few were carrying umbrellas, and cars were driving. Some puffy qrey clouds could be seen on the sky, blocking the sun light. October would soon reach its end and November made its presence visible.

I hope it won't rain, she thought and smiled. She stood up and went inside again. The scent of black coffee reached her nose and filled her with warmth. She sat on a chair in the bar and looked at Touka, who was wiping some cups with a towel.

"Yomo makes really good coffe, don't you think?" She asked her.

"Indeed he does. He loves it." Touka replied and grinned. "Are you ready for another busy day?"

"Girl, I was born ready!" She said in a funny voice and both of them laughed.

":re has unexcpectedly a lot of customers these days," Touka said.

:re was the name of the coffe shop. Touka had chosen it, although Yasuko had no idea what it meant. She would ask her one day, but just not yet.

"Well, since Anteiku was burnt down and they know that the ones who worked there are here now, they choose :re." Touka smiled.

Two years had passed since that day. Touka hadn't taken it lightly, but slowly and with support from both Yomo and Yasuko, she got over it and opened :re. Or at least that was what Yasuko thought.

As for her, Yasuko would never forget that day and how lucky she had been. Running into Touka was something that had cheered her up. She had taken her into her apartment and taken care of her injuries. From that day, they had been living together.

But the reason why she still remembered that day was no other but her meeting with that CCG investigator. He was about to kill her with his quinque, but why hadn't he done it? Why had he extended his hand? Why had he spared her life?

"Hey, earth calling Yasuko!" She heard Touka's voice that brought her back to reality. "What were you thinking again?"

"Uh..."

"Don't tell me you were thinking about that investigator again! We've talked about it! It's been two years!"

"I know... I just wanted to thank him..."

"Look Yasuko," Touka said softly and took her hand into hers. "I know that you are really thankful to him, but there is no way you'll see him. And even if you do, how will you tell him? Will you just approach him and say 'hey, I am the ghoul you saved two years ago, thank you'? You can't do that!"

"Yes, you are right..." she replied with a sad sigh. Then the door behind them opened and Yomo came out.

"I think we are ready to open." He said and smiled.

"I'm on it," Yasuko grinned and went to the front door. She flipped the wooden board with the gold letters on it from 'closed' to 'open'. She turned to the others and grinned. "Let's do this."

The shop was full after half an hour. All the tables were reserved and both Yasuko and Touka were running up and down to serve everyone.

While Yasuko was taking someone's order, Touka gave her a weak hit with her elbow. She turned and looked at her.

"What is it?" She asked.
