Everyone stared at you worriedly with sympathy as you crossed down the halls. Confused, you kept walking down to the males' gym to meet the boys' volleyball team -- or to be more specific, the third year setter and vice captain called Sugawara Koushi. He had asked you out yesterday and the news had already spread like wildfire all over the school. But ever since yesterday, everyone has been giving you weird looks that you don't get. You would just brush them off your shoulder like it was nothing. Although, the thought kept floating around your mind. You were going to ask Sugawara if he knew anything about it since it startef ever since he asked you out.
Entering the humongous gym, you watched the numerous amount of players chase after the red, white and green ball as they tried endlessly to keep it in the air to the best of their abilities. You smiled to yourself, watching your boyfriend do his best. You stopped your gaze on the silver head and made your way towards the two managers, Shimizu Kiyoko and Yachi Hitoka. They glanced at each other, each with weird looks on their faces, before turning back to you with very faint smiles.
"Is there something wrong, Shimizu-san, Yachi-san?" you asked, curiosity tracing its boundaries.
Shimizu sighed, her face turning more depressing. "Have you noticed anything about Sugawara?" she asked quietly. You shook your head a no.
"Is there something I should've noticed...?"
Yachi shook her head violently, "N-nothing, [Last Name]-senpai!" Your lips turned down a bit. You noticed their expressions both matched; sad and worried. You brushed past it and went back to watching your boyfriend play his favorite sport on the court.
You watched each player intensely, noticing their very determined expressions hidden behind their facial features. You loved the way they each reacted to volleyball. Together, they make a room seem as if it's as star with how bright they make it. You tried out for the girls' volleyball team and made yourself a place as the [Position]. You loved it very much and couldn't be happier, especially since your boyfriend has a love for volleyball himself.
You waited as he finished cleaning himself up in the lockeroom. You fiddled with your uniform as you did. You saw a figure in front of you and looked up, about to say a silver head's name. But all you saw was the captain with his arms crossed and a sad expression on his face.
"Ah, Sawamura-san. Is there something you need?" you asked politely, making sure to not anger him in any sort of way. "I have notes from class if you need them."
Sawamura shook his head and placed his hand on your head, making you squeak in surprise. You looked up at him. "Just be careful and don't get emotionally attached to anything, okay?"
You sweatdropped as you removed his hand from your head, "Yes, dad." The captain looked down upon you with a darkened aura, making you cower in fear. "I-I mean-- ye-yes, capta-tain!"
"Eh, are you okay, [First Name]?" Sugawara asks as he comes behind the fatherly figure of the team. Said person smiled at the vice captain and gestured towards you, moving aside. "C'mon then, [First Name]. We can go get popsicles on the way home." Giving his well-known smile, he put his hand out. You grabbed it and smiled back at him. As you walked out of the gym, you turned back and stuck your tongue out at Sawamura.
Sugawara looked back at you as you did that and felt guilt bubble up in the pit of his stomach. He hates that he had to do this to you, but it was the only way he could get over her. He frowned as you both continued walking down the road. The cars wizzed by, making gusts of wind fly by. You looked up at your boyfriend to see his frown. You clutched his hand tighter as you looked back onto the street and walked. Sugawara jolted up in surprise and blushed a bit. He smiled a little and walked with you.
You browsed through the supermarket as Sugawara talked to Ukai, who was also their volleyball coach. He left a bit early than everyone else so he could work his afternoon shift. You were about to turn to corner and surprise Sugawara, but then you overheard the untitled conversation the two were having.
"So how's [Last Name] doing for you?" Ukai asks as he puffs out another cloud of smoke from his current cigarette, which was almost finished.
"I don't know if I could do this to them... I know they were just supposed to help me, but I just feel bad now." he confronted with a long sigh, resting his arms on the countertop. "I don't know what to do.."
"You're beginning to get all emotional." he told. "Now you're taking a like of her?"
Sugawara nodded, his eyes were filled with so many emotions but they also seemed almost blank. You looked down and remembered all the looks and the warning Sawamura gave you about getting emotionally attached to something and then the question from Yachi and Shimizu. Your eyes started getting watery, and you tried your best to wipe them away. Sugawara was only using you as a rebound to get over his ex? No, that can't be. No one would think that the sweet boy would ever do such a thing. But there you stood with him at the supermarket as he used you as a rebound.
"WHAT IS THE LIQUID POURING OUT OF MY EYES?!" you cried out, trying to wipe the tears away. Sugawara and Ukai jumped at the cry. You picked up your bag and rushed put the door full speed.
"[Fi-First Name]!" Sugawara called out, grabbed his bag and dashing off after you. Ukai smushed his cigarette and sighed at the both of you.
