To all those who commented, I really liked all the suggestions and theories you had. I like how that is so much questioning towards Zayn xD. Now let the chapter begin!
----------
Silence is the only thing that could be heard when we finally make it to an abandoned road. The four of us stand in a line in front of the paved dirt and gravel surrounded by trees. Of course nightly creatures choose to reside and conduct their plans in secluded areas like woods and abandoned places because they obviously can't afford to let humans and other stupid people find out. But of course, people like me and the boys can blend in with human society without ever getting caught.
"So what are we going to do?" Louis asks from my left. We all turns our heads and see the concentration swirling in the vampire's stormy eyes. However, I scrunch my eyebrows. I mean, isn't it obvious that we walk down the road and see where it leads to? If Louis was right about where the vile demons were staking out, then at the end of the dirt road would be the cabin or whatever shitty building they're squatting in.
"Liam." My head snaps to the left at the sound of the dark gravelly voice. My darkened eyes immediately make contact with golden honey and I sigh. Screw Zayn and his intuition. This is going to be exactly like two years ago on that damn roof.
"I don't even know why I asked," I grumble to myself, my eyes trained on the floor. I look back up, the glint of mock submission positively gleaming in my eyes. "Then what should we do?"
The panther is not fazed by me. Instead, he silently chuckles and shakes his head. His amber irises suddenly glow yellow and the smirk pulling the sides of my mouth can't be helped. It was always fun to sin with the boys, especially Zayn, when they are on their way to primal instincts.
"Louis and Harry will go first and scope out the area. Louis can use his telepathy to tell us what we're dealing with on the outside. And then we wait five minutes. After that, we'll come in. Take care of the guards and then barge in."
I shove my hands in my pockets and nod my head. I have to say I am impressed. Even without being in contact with us or two years, he sure knows how to make a very concise fluid plan.
"Are you sure you two should stay alone?" Harry asks. "I mean, maybe Zayn should go with Louis or me and the other-"
"It's fine." Everyone except Zayn whips their heads in my direction, shock taking over their expressions. Zayn slightly tilts his head to the side and smirks. I mirror his expression. He knows what's about to happen. And besides, this is something that this conversation must be between me and Zayn. No Louis or Harry.
"Come on, you guys. The clock is ticking," I say without looking at the vampire and werewolf. I don't have to glance over to see the tense uncertainty when green meets storm-blue. Regardless, they both shake their heads. Harry walks down the road first then Louis. However, the vampire stops and turns around, the worry clouding his eyes.
"Just ... don't kill each other." And with that, he jogs after the werewolf, leaving me and the panther to stand in the glowing moonlight.
Silence returns and hugs the air. A breeze picks up, the dust starting to swirl and ghost around our feet. Unlike all the other times Zayn and I are in close proximity to each other, this silence is comfortable. This silence is sound. But it is fragile. Almost like a pin drop would shatter it and bring disoriented chaos. I don't want to be the one to break it. I look over to my left and I see the panther shuffling, moving his weight from foot to foot. I can tell he doesn't want to break it either. But then the words from the melodic Irish voice resonates through my mind.
Please don't be mad at Zayn anymore. Just talk to him. For me.
I have to do it. I have to be the one to rupture the fragility. Because my angel asked me to. That's when I smell it. The burning of paper and the drug of nicotine. I glance back over at the panther and the yellow glow in his amber eyes is gone. Amusement fills my core when I see the fiery orange of a lit cigarette, the thin wispy pillar of grey smoke spoiling the air.
