A Chill In The Air
Chapter Four
As Layla had set in her mind in finding where Tanner had went, across town in a cosy little corner café sat her closest friend, best friend more like a sister, Paisley. Paisley unlike Layla chose not to go to university, she was still undecided in what she wanted to do in her life, a small job was all that kept her occupied until she would make up her mind. The café didn’t have much in offering appeal to the buying customers but it had that hidden away cosy feel that you can’t stay away from. Everything clearly needed a lick of paint, new seats, well new everything but Paisley liked coming here since she used to come ever since she was small and she wasn’t one for breaking tradition.
Paisley herself was a small-ish girl, not overly tall so she often seemed to be hidden by the booth she sat in, her hair was cropped short but refused to let go of its natural waves. Her hair itself was the most impressive shade of golden blonde, it shone out so others could clearly see she was letting them know she was here but its beauty radiated her natural looks complimenting her face. The features of her face equally matching and in proportion to the rest of her face gave off a cherub/pixie like appearance as Paisley always had this magically delicate quality about her.
Although being happy in work Paisley still missed Layla’s company, too much time away from her now seemed to make her sad and she was rather hoping that coming to the café would comfort her but relieved to say, just at the moment she was thinking about Layla up pops her image on her phone’s caller ID. Paisley smiled and happily hit the ‘answer’ button. “Hey you, I was just thinking about you. What’s up?” she listened carefully to all of Layla’s babbling and rather excitable talk and she had to pause her so she could fully understand what’s going on. “Okay okay let me get this right. You had a dream last night about you and this guy but it seemed more a memory than a dream, then this creepy guy kept making references you think are about you whilst in English class, and you found his name was Tanner Shay and you’re going all creepy ass stalker on him as you feel he’s something to do with it.” As Paisley spoke it seemed like she had caught the interest of another. He turned his head around to look at who was speaking with that chime-like voice and as his eyes fell upon her his whole world didn’t seem to matter as he looked her up and down.
After talking with Layla for her whole lunch time, Paisley finally hung up the phone with a happy yet relieved breath as she leaned back only to be joined in the booth by the person whose interest she had caught. She blinked and sat up straight again with a quick motion as she was currently unsure as to why he was sitting in front of her. He seemed to smile at her and at her cautiousness towards him; his hand came from under the table now extended to her. “Hello, I’m Cedric Taylor it’s nice to meet you.” His movement was much more confident now he was actually in front of her talking to her, compared to his stiff posture whilst watching her from over at the bar stools. Slightly nervously Paisley slid her hand into his and lightly shook it. “Paisley Roberts. I’m sorry but, do I know you?” Cedric shook his head and casually sat back. “No but you can if you want to. But on a serious note I couldn’t but help to overhear what you were talking about.” Arching a brow Paisley nodded slightly and leaned back also. “So apart from listening into my private conversation, which part caught your attention?” “Just the part about the guy, Tanner Shay. He’s like my best mate and I just wondered what the little devil was up to this time.”
Cedric and Paisley continued to talk for what felt like hours but was only a couple. Paisley had a slight pink hue to her cheeks as she when she wasn’t talking, stared at Cedric as she saw some slight beauty to his appearance but she couldn’t figure out why she was drawn to him. “So it appears that we’ve come to meet due to the phone call from my best friend about yours, that’s some coincidence.” Cedric nodded with a smile as he paid the bill for them. “I like to think of it more as fate than coincidence.” Paisley swallowed and nodded. “Mm, yes you’re right.” As they both stood up Cedric took her hand containing her mobile and slipped a small white piece of card into her hand. “Call me if you want to, I’d like to get to know you a little more. Goodbye” he said with a soft voice kissing the top side of her hand containing his number before he left. “Goodbye.” Paisley said in a whisper to herself as she seemed to have been captivated by this man she never knew existed, until now.
