A Chill In The Air
Chapter Thirty-One
Night drew in as the four of them remained at the log house, a chill returning to the air though none of them aware of it currently, individual circumstances clouded their sight of what was right in front of them, and what was about to happen. Cedric and Tanner kept residence in the makeshift living room, Cedric fast asleep in the chair as he sat slightly slumped in his slumber and Tanner wide awake with his chin in his hands as his elbows rested on his knees. Paisley however was still beside Layla as she wanted to be the one to wake her from her unconscious state, she didn’t have to wait long as soon enough Layla’s delicate eyelids fluttered open, gazing up at the dark ceiling above her.
Layla woke up to Paisley’s smiling face as her happy smile always brought Layla some sense of comfort and security, sitting up straight Layla blinked her eyes into focus and looked at Paisley seated beside her. “Paisley? What’re you doing here?” she said in a soft voice, groggy from freshly waking from a sudden collapsed state. “Cedric told me some crazy stuff Layla, like majorly crazy stuff. Basically what’s happening to you and Tanner is happening to me and Cedric, crazy right?” Layla nodded and scratched her head, a gentle and mellow yawn escaping her chapped lips, “Yeah tell me about it, one day it’s all dull and boring the next it’s all danger and dapper guys in posh clothing.” The two exchanged a laugh at what some would refer to as a sudden misfortune, but they had to see the good behind all the doom and gloom of past events.
The girls spent a few moments more just talking about what’d happened, venting helped them both out especially since they’re in this together and it’s just nice to have someone to talk to and tell things about. Good thing they have each other. After she finished talking Layla got up out of the bed and stretched as she stood on her feet, not as wobbly as when she went down. “Paisley I think I’m ready to go see Tanner, to you know, talk. I can’t but help feel bad for fainting on him like that, you know me it’s not a thing I do.” Not stopping to question her, Paisley nodded and she stepped back and opened the door, whispering “Good luck.” Before Layla smiled and stepped out of the room.
In the living room much remained the same as the door opened with a soft but loud creak, Cedric still slightly slumped in the chair sleeping, and Tanner raising gaze up off his feet the moment he heard the door open. Seeing Layla step out he rose to his feet as he was more than eager to see how she was doing now she was awake, followed by Paisley behind her to make sure she made it to him okay without falling. Now face to face again Layla offered him a relieved smile, “Hi” she said softly, he returned her smile and looked down at her. “Hi”. He slowly moved his right hand on top of her left and took it gently in his grasp, “Shall we?” Layla knew what he meant as she wanted the same thing, keeping his smile Tanner led Layla to the back door and out into the back garden to be able to speak privately before anything else happened.
Paisley was awed at how Cedric looked as he slept as she hadn’t had a real chance to observe him, the last time he was like this with her he was downstairs and she was upstairs, his innocent yet adorable sleeping face warmed her heart as she ran her index finger down the slope of his cheek to his sculpted jawline. After drawing her finger around his face she wrapped her arms loosely and gently around his neck, placing her plump lips on his cheek kissing him delicately as if not wanting to break his sleeping form. Much to her efforts Cedric woke to the feeling of Paisley’s soft touch with a sleepy smile, “Hey.” He manages to say without one trace of grog in is voice, lucky for some. Paisley flushed a pretty pale pink at being caught kissing a sleeping angel, “Hi yourself.” Cedric sat up straighter and put her in his lap, nestling her gently on top of him. “How’s Layla doing?” “Much better, she’s awake and she’s gone for a talk outside with Tanner, I think she’s going to be alright.” Smiling Cedric planted a kiss on Paisley’s pale arm and he nodded, “Good.”
