A Chill In The Air
Chapter Fourteen
Looking down into his eyes Paisley could clearly see that Cedric was not giving her the full story. He was leaving something out, something didn’t seem quite right to her as he explained the feeling he had despite her best efforts to try and understand the full picture. She was still left somewhat confused. His face to her read that he was indeed telling her part of the truth, but as always the whole truth is in a person’s eyes, the eyes tell the story as they hold the gateway to the soul, or so it is believed.
Gulping nervously Paisley plucked up what little courage she had at this point whilst being touched by Cedric to speak more to him, as before when he was pouring his heart out to her telling her how he was feeling, she was just sitting there and listening whereas now she found it the time for her time to be the one talking. “Can’t you tell me more? You’ve already said so much you can’t just stop there. I know it seems painful whatever you’re feeling despite me understanding the feeling I don’t know the full picture. It’s alright you can tell me, I promise I won’t say a word to anyone.” Exhaling Cedric let go of her face and rubbed the bridge of his nose. “It’s not that easy Paisley. Trust me I wish I could tell you it from the beginning but believe me I won’t ever lie to you but if you knew the full picture right now, it would be too dangerous of you to learn something that you don’t know.” Paisley’s brows creased ever so slightly as a soft frown formed on her face, “So what you’re saying is that I can’t handle a little bit of your past? I wasn’t even there so I can’t judge you based on what happened.” She got off his lap and turned facing away from him with her arms crossed and tucked in close to her chest.
Blinking Cedric rose to his feet and stood less than a meter away from behind Paisley as he exhaled once more, clearly telling her that this is paining him as much as it is her. “Hey now, please don’t be like that. You know I would tell you all of it but what I care about right now is for you to be safe, that means more to me than any old back story of mine.” This heartfelt plea only made Paisley tear up again as she fought to control her sniffles, “Oh that’s real nice that is, try to work your way back in for not telling me by plucking at my delicate heartstrings.” Her voice wobbled as she just about controlled a imminent outburst of sobbing. “Just leave ok? Just go.” She said as she put her hand to her mouth muffling her small sobs that managed to escape.
Taking in what she just said, Cedric couldn’t bring himself to even consider it. The thought of ever having to leave her unwillingly made his whole body tense up as inside he shook from upset at the thought. “But I…” he was shortly interrupted by Paisley repeating for him to leave as she turned around his body with one swift motion heading for the hallway to get the door open for a bigger indication that she was serious for him leaving. He couldn’t allow her to do this to him, not since everything that’s happened in the day that they met and got to know each other. Inside his shaking grew and vibrated through his every muscle moving him forward, with one fluid motion he reached out with his hand firmly yet gently grasping Paisley’s slender wrist in his large hand. This immediately caused Paisley to pause and look around at him with a shocked look as with the same fluid motion he brought her carefully so not to hurt her, close to his chest with his arms locking around her lower back keeping her to him. “No.” he said to her firmly telling her that he would not leave and that he refused to. Tears pricked and continued to spill from Paisley’s eyes rolling down her cheeks like little glass droplets, Cedric wiped them away as quickly as they fell before he leaned down cocking his head to one side as like two hands entwined in other, their lips met.
