A Chill In The Air

Chapter Nineteen

After almost being squeezed to death, Layla sat down opposite Paisley in the booth Paisley had chosen to occupate. Grasping hands both Layla and Paisley grinned from ear to ear, both of them overly excited to speak to one another. Around them a melody of sights and smells swirled in perfect harmony, creating the most mellodious of scenes. Women chatted, children giggled and men gave choruses of laughter as they all sat drinking and making merry. This as the sort of atmosphere that was almost a natural want and comfor not only for Layla but Paisley too, it's only natural that both girls felt the same, they've been friends since nursery school. If only one of them would say something.

Thankfully it was Paisley who chose to break the silence between them, "Oh my God! Layla like it's been so, no, too long! You must not go for that long again or else I'll die from loneliness." Giving her hand a squeeze, Layla gave a soft laugh and nodded. "Paisley dear I believe that's impossible, you've already gone crazy of a different sense." she said in a posh put-on tone as they always used to do as little girls. Paisley wasn't offended by Layla's choice of joke, instead she laughed it off. "All the best people are crazy Layla always remember that." Layla nodded as both sat back. Picking up identical menus the girls once more looked back at each other. "I want to hear all about your life but please please please can I go first? I have so much to say and it's quite strangely awesome." Paisley grinned as Layla smirked and nodded, casting her eyes down to the menu as she prepared for the lengthly speech Paisley was most likely to embark on. "Well, cut a long story short a guy saved me from almost being squashed by a car. The very same guy from the diner, so being kind I invite him to my place and after talking we kiss and he stays the night."  Layla's  eyes had shot back up to Paisley's beaming face, now wide with shock at not being told any of this, Paisley continued on. "He only stayed on the couch but the odd thing is he got a call then left, no reason or excuse he just left. Strange huh?" Layls blinked and she nodded as she told the waitress what she wanted to eat and drink. "Apart from you not telling me any of this, yes it's more strange it's like fate." Paisley nodded and placed her order.

After Paisley's not so long speech it was Layla's turn to talk. She spoke to Paisley about every inch of her short time at University, weaved in it she filled her in on her own strange event with all the creepy notes. Earning strange looks and gasps as she spoke. "So basically you've got a serial stalker and this Tyler guy clearly has caught your eye eh?" said Paisley as she winked, nudging Layla with the tip of her elbow. Swatting her off gently, Layla shook her head sitting back as their drinks were placed in front of them. "No but there's definitely something weird going on, both for you and me that's for sure." Nodding they both clinked their glasses and made a toast to their weirdly awesome new lives whilst they giggled once more.

It wasn't long before their food came and even less longer until it was all gone again, both girls equally as big a food lover as the other despite both of their slim fisiques. Paisley was growing more and more antsy as she watched Layla finish off her food, groaning Layla  caved ad held up her hands, "Alright what is it Paisley? You look like you need to go, badly." Shaking her head Paisley leaned in and lowered her voice as if what she was about to say was some big secret. "Well you know how I told you about Cedric? Well I just remembered as I was eating that he was pushing the subject o University, naturally I say no but then he says he can put me through all the expenses, talk about cheek eh?" Layla put her cutlery down with enough force to attract the attention of those around them. "Don't take this the wrong way but he sounds like one of those guys who likes to control what the girl he likes, telling them where to go and what to do. Well this isn't 1920 so girl if you stick by your guns and don't you let a man get get you down no matter how cute or sexy he is." she crossed her arms smirking as her inner feminist ego roared to the fore, torching any flames Cedric had set alight in Paisley's mind as she high-fived Layla. "Yeah! You're totally right! I won't, but he is sexily cute." Layla rolled her eyes as she smirked at the air-headded Paisley, as always was the way when they used to talk about guys.

The girls had a series of drinks ranging from tea to hot chocolate, water to wine as they continued to talk about anything and everyone gossiped about anyone and everything that came to mind. It was only when on looking around at another booth that Paisley saw looking straight at her and Layla, a guy sitting with a girl both with a pen and paper, and they were not studying. Tapping Layla's arm, Paisley kept her eyes  on the staring couple and it was only when Layla raised her voice when calling Paisley to ask her what she wanted, that when Paisley looked back, there was no one there. "I swear I just saw people staring at us just now." she said blinking both surprised and shocked. "Probably just he wine Pais, don't worry..." she was interrupted by quite an erratic call from Cassie requesting her immediate and urgent assisance, groaning Layla nodded and hung up. "What's wrong?." I've got to go. I'm sorry, my roommate Cassie needs my help and she won't quit asking until she gets what she wants." Nodding and finishing her last drink, Paisley cleared her throat. "Say no more I completely understand, I know a people like that too. It was good to see you again, don't forget to Skype me tomorrow ok?" she gave Layla a bear hug as she was done prepping to go. "I will Pais, thank you so much I owe you one! I love you so much." she smiled and sprinted to the door stepping out of the diner.

Not even two seconds had gone by since Layla had left and already there was someone else in her place. Familiar clothes, in fact the same clothes Paisley saw yesterday and her eyes snapped up to the face of none other than Cedric Taylor. "Hey" he said in a rich velvety voice, giving her a warm smile to match. "Cedric." Paisley was surprised to see him here, it's as almost a if he had been waiting to be alone with her. Outside of the diner as Layla just left shutting the door behind her, it wasn't the cold that hit her but instead something more solid, a person. "Ow, watch it will you?" she grumbled looking up at the face of the person who bumped into her. "Hello Layla." said a smiling Tanner Shay. "Urgh, it's you." Layla groaned showing her annoyance of running into him of all people.
