A Chill In The Air

Chapter Fifteen

Sunrise brought a new feeling to the day for Layla as she rose up out of her bed, stretching her back and arms as she made her way over to the full length mirror. What she saw was the result of a good night’s sleep combined with what looked like a quick trip through a hedge and back as her hair stuck out in all directions not quite sure which way it was supposed to be going. This very much resembled who Layla was, she was a girl who didn’t know where she was going until she came to university, and like her hair she too would be heading down a straight path. Where that path lead to would make Layla what she’s always wanted to be.

Light filtered into the room via a small opening in the vintage-like curtains draped from ceiling to the floor, hitting the back of Layla as she looked at herself in the mirror. She stood thinking about her first official day at university the day before and the series of strange events that happened within it. Part of her wanted to forget the weird parts and hang on only to the faces she met, but the other part of her wanted to know more than what she barely knows now. Shrugging off her current lingering thoughts Layla walked past the end of Cassie’s bed as she continued to silently slip within it. Natural light filled the bathroom as Layla turned on the shower to freshen up before breakfast and morning lessons, today she had language class all day so she felt no need to rush since she’d be in the same room.

After her shower Layla wrapped her skinny body up into a towel that was much too big for her, as her usually pale white skin radiated a pinkie hue from the heat of the water as she had it up way too high. She was always a lover for hotter things, summer, showers and Robert Pattinson. As she sat down on the side of the bath pinning her hair up she could distinctly hear the shuffling and rustling next door, Cassie must be waking up which meant the end to peace and relaxation but Layla didn’t mind as Cassie was a good friend to have around, crazy or not. Cassie opened the bathroom door yawning so wide you could mark her mouth as a new cave to be explored. “I don’t know how you could get up so early, don’t you like to sleep in?” she grumbled shuffling over to the cabinet reaching in for her toothbrush. “I do but if we waste what the day has to offer we could miss something. What you got today?” Yawning again Cassie spoke, “I got Politics class all day, urgh what a drag.” Blinking Layla looked at Cassie, “But you haven’t even taken the class yet, how could you know it would be a drag?” “Because I know from experience, day long lessons usually last like forever.” Smirking Layla finished off her morning pre-breakfast preparation routine as she dressed in a smart yet casual ensemble of a skirt, shirt and blouse, classy yet casual.

Layla said her goodbye’s to Cassie as it was apparent that she wasn’t going to be joining her for breakfast until it was the last possible moment, so Layla made her way down the hall and across the way heading towards the boys inside dormitory. She wanted to grab her chance at speaking to Tyler now before anyone else got in her way as Tanner had done the day before. Unbeknown to Layla, Cassie was actually a pretty quick dresser as she didn’t need to make her face up or prep anything; she liked to go casual all the time. She at her own careful pace followed behind Layla as she wanted to see what she was up to as her suspicions about getting up early clearly told her Layla was up to something, no person with a rational mind would get up early for lessons that were an hour away.

It took Layla no time at all to get up to the floor Tyler’s room was on since the day before she had gone in search of it. Cassie continued to follow Layla up into the boy’s dormitory and onto the same floor she was on, in her mind she was wondering two things, why Layla wanted to come here and who did she want to see. All of which would soon become apparent when on approaching the door to knock it Layla froze mid-stretch when she heard a voice behind her. “Looking for me?” Layla turned around sharpish and she stood back realising that Tyler stood right behind her instead of in his room where she thought he would be. “Yes, yes actually I was looking for you. I didn’t get a chance to come to you last night so I’ll say it now why did you…” she was interrupted by his hand raising telling her to stop speaking, “No need I know what it’s about, and it wasn’t me okay?  It wasn’t me and trust me I wouldn’t want another one of your tackles if I was in my room just now. Besides we’ve just met so there’s no reason for me doing that to you alright?” Layla stood dumbstruck as Cassie hidden by Tyler’s body snuck off back down the stairs satisfied with her mission. “But, how could you know? Did…” it hit her at that moment that Tanner stopped her and he said he’d deal with it. A small cunning smile formed on her face as she shook her head, “You know what, its okay I believe you. No harm no foul right?” Tyler smiled and nodded. “Right, now would you like to join me for breakfast Miss Layla?” Keeping her false satisfied smile on her face Layla nodded and the two walked off out of the hallway and towards the breakfast hall.
