LJ POV

"That was a fail," I said as we made our way from the girl's room.

"Shut up," Jeff said dejectedly, and Smile whined and nudged his hand comfortingly. I pat his back.

"There will be more, you know that right?" I asked him, and he nodded. "But I am wondering something, Jeff."

"What?" he hissed harshly, and I rolled my eyes, knowing his attitude wouldn't last long.

"Why couldn't you bring yourself to kill her?" I asked quietly. He froze and whipped his head around to look at me, his eyes narrowed.

"I can kill her, Laughing Jack. You will see." he growled. I held my hands up in surrender.

"I only meant why couldn't you this time? I wasnt saying that you couldn't kill her, but why not this time. We had her. Right in our hands. Literally."

"Because, LJ." he sighed like I didn't get what he was getting at. "You should know this. I like to play with my prey before it's gone." He grinned again, walking up to his room. I sighed and sat down, my hand to my forehead in thought.

"Phoenix." I said aloud my thoughts. "Something isn't right. Why didn't Jeff kill her? He wouldn't usually reply with I like to play with my prey before its gone. There's something fishy going on. And I'm going to find out what." I never got to think more because Jeff walked into the room, running a hand through his messy hair.

"So..." I said. "Anything on the next hunt?" Then I saw Smile enter and whine, nudging Jeff's leg with his muzzle.

"No..." he said a little bitterly. He sat down, and Smile Dog sat in his lap. Jeff chuckled and pet the dog. "I'm still thinking...." his eyes clouded over, and I assumed he was either zoning out or thinkng. Probably better not to interfere.

I was still confused however. There's something he was hiding, I knew it. He could have killed her, he's capable of it, and he was going to. What changed? With him, it was quick, even scary kills, not long, torturous ones.

I will find out...

Jeff POV (gasp)

I couldn't kill her. Something... just, something about her.... It was.... something. I can't think about what it is. But, she's... like a drug. Addicting, and something. I sighed and stood up before running to my room, burying my face in a pillow. I lay on my bed, then groaned loudly.

"Alluring..." I whispered, pulling my face out of the pillow. "That's what she is. Alluring." I sighed. Something about her was... Alluring. She was different than others, useful even. I don't know why I didn't kill her, but I knew that she was more use alive than dead to me. I couldn't tell the others, but it was true.

I have to go pay her another visit soon...

Phoenix POV

"PHOENIX!" Two voices made me scream and fall out of my bed in a tangle of covers and limbs.

"SERIOUSLY!?!?!?!" I shouted at Joselyn and Denny, who were literally on the ground, laughing. I glared at them and struggled to stand. I looked at the clock. 7:30!!!! ON A SATURDAY! Oh they've made me mad now... "IT IS SEVEN FREAKING THIRTY IN THE FREAKING MORNING ON A SATURDAY! I AM SO MAD AT YOU GUYS!" they screamed and ran, and I growled.

"Oh now we're angry, aren't we?" I heard a voice say, and I slowly turned. I squeaked as I saw Jeff leaning on the staircase. "Well, that anger will be gone soon." he grinned and I shook a little bit.

"W-W-W-W-What are you d-d-doing here?!" I backed up till I was against the wall near my door. In a second, he was right in front of me, smirking as he raised the knife. I tried to scream, but he covered my mouth.

"Now now," he purred, and my eyes went wider. "No struggling. I told you, you are my prey, didn't I tell you this?" he asked me, and I tried to hide the fear that was in my blood. He smirked. "You are so brave, Phoenix..." he chuckled darkly. I flinched, and he traced a line on my cheek. I could feel blood run down my jaw bone, and I shuddered.

"Leave. Me. Alone." I said, my voice muffled. He hesitated, but before I could register why, he growled.

"Why should I?"

"You really wanna ask?" I smirked under his hand. He raised an eyebrow and moved his hand away. I took a deep breath.

"What was that?"

"I said," I repeated. "You really wanna ask?" He scowl smirked again, and I scoffed silently.

"Actually, no." he admitted, and I chuckled darkly. "Listen here, Phoenix," he got really close. His forehead was pressed against mine, and our lips were centimeters apart. "You, you are the prey. I am the predator. I will get you." he pulled away and I felt colder than earlier, my heart dropping right into my stomach.

About as fast and as silently he had appeared, he left. I sighed and grabbed my glasses off of my nightstand. Putting them on, I changed out of my white shirt and orange shorts and into a red shirt and black skinny jeans. I pulled my combat boots on and walked upstairs, ready, but not quite ready, to face the day.

I wish I knew where that sadistic, psychotic killer was, so I could tear him apart, limb by freaking limb.
