It was Saturday morning. It was 9:00 AM on Saturday morning, and I felt sick. So sick that my first movement of the morning was to jump towards the toilet and vomit until I felt lightheaded.
It was Jenna's wedding day.
Robyn had shown up around 10:00 AM with donuts and coffee, explaining that, unless I went with her, she wouldn't be able to talk much. I still waved away the idea and thanked her for breakfast before she was gone again.
It was Jenna's wedding day to that...thing with the little thing inside of it.
I dressed as though I planned on attending anyway, with a flowery dress and my hair pinned back with a flower clip. I wore a pale red lipstick that matched my shoes, and Jordan was dressed in a tuxedo. He was going with Rob. The two were invited by Jenna, and they claimed she said me dropping by wouldn't be an issue. I declined, despite knowing it was a lie.
It was Jenna's wedding day. Of all the people in the world to settle down at twenty-four it was her, and it was with pregnant, cheating She-Devil.
The remaining group of us went to the bar, as usual. Cameron assumed I was down in the dumps about it being Jenna's wedding day, but I just felt sick. Maybe you're sick about the wedding, he proposed. No Cameron, I would reply, I don't care about the wedding. After our almost kiss at her bachelorette party I couldn't care less. I just felt sick, and that was all.
Robyn said the ceremony would begin at one, and even offered that she would come pick me up if I wanted. I could stay by her throughout the ceremony, and I didn't have to stay for the reception. She said it was small and outdoors, so I wouldn't feel confined or claustrophobic in a chapel or a humongous wedding hall. Finally, I caved.
It was twelve-thirty when we arrived. I was still trying to calm my sick feeling. Nicki looked at me with wide eyes.
"You're here!" she exclaimed. "I honestly never thought you'd cave."
"I'll show you where you can sit," Robyn said to me. She intertwined our fingers as we walked down the aisle to the first row, where Ashley was sitting. I couldn't seem to speak, even when Ashley asked if I was going to be okay here. All I could do was nod.
The half hour left until the ceremony began seemed to take five seconds. The music was starting and I felt Ashley grab my hand a little tighter for comfort, since Robyn was with Bey, Nicki, and whoever Jenna's other bridesmaids were. First out was Bey, paired with one of Courtney's bridesmaids. Jenna's girls wore cream colored dresses with teal roses, and Courtney's girls wore teal dresses with cream roses. Next was Hayley, paired with another one of Courtney's bridesmaids. Then Robyn, who looked to the other side of the area to give me a smile once she'd reached the front. I forced one back. Last was Nicki, with who I assumed to be Courtney's maid of honor.
I didn't want to watch, but I knew that I should. It was a final look at Jenna, it was closure, it was...impossible to not be mesmerized by the way she walked in her dress.
I had never seen Jenna in a dress before, and most certainly never would have imagined her in a long white one. Brian MacDonald walked her down the aisle, and I thought the gesture to be more sweet than most anything else I'd seen in the world. And I once fostered puppies with my sister. But the dress, and her in the dress, and the nervous look on her face until she reached Nicki, who was giving her a supportive and dimply smile. From where Ashley and I were sitting on the right side, my eyes locked with Jenna's where she stood on the left. She was trying to fight it, but she gave me a toothy grin. It was one of the most heartwarming smiles I'd ever received.
And then it was Courtney's turn. She was escorted by one of her friends, I assumed. Tall and handsome, with a few piercings and such. Her extremely small baby bump was barely noticeable through the dress, and I began to wonder if it was even there.
