Camila and Lauren were sitting in the auditorium, they were the only ones i there, it seemed to fit better that way so they could actually make a conversation.
"So, how's life at home?" Camila asked awkwardly, taking a bite from a taco.
Lauren gave her a dead eye, which stopped Camila's heart for a moment, but then all was well when Lauren let out a small chuckle.
"I mean it's okay. My sister is graduating eighth grade soon, so I'm really excited for that."
Lauren didn't know why she agreed to this, maybe because she brought tacos? Well, in all honesty, she wanted to hear about Camila. After this, she can just go back to hating her, right?
"That's amazing! I really missed Taylor." Camila said honestly, portraying a bummed expression.
Lauren smiled slightly. "She misses you too. She heard you came by the other day... she wanted to see you, but Papi told her that you were talking to my mom, so he sent her back upstairs."
Camila nodded, remembering the conversation she had with Lauren's mother that day. She looked up and watched as Lauren ate a bite of her taco.
"How's therapy?" Camila asked curiously, biting her bottom lip. She really was curious about how Lauren was doing, she just wanted her to be okay.
Lauren took a second to finish chewing her food before she began to speak.
"It's been okay I suppose, I'm still shaky when I run, and I sometimes fall, but I've been good for the most part. It's hard for me to jump and stuff, I only got used to walking not too long ago, baby steps you know?" She asked with a small smile, avoiding the touchiness of the subject.
There was about three minutes of silence between them two before Camila blurted out. "I'm sorry."
Lauren's head snapped up, she hated apologies, because apologies never truly fixed anything. She never saw a point into them. So she replied with what she thought.
"It doesn't matter."
Camila looked down at her fingers and nodded. "I know that. I know that I can't change anything... I can't change what happened between us and-"
"There is nothing between us." Lauren spat coldly. "Just because you sit me down and buy me tacos and try to talk about my depressing experiences doesn't mean we're friends. We're not friends, we're not enemies, we aren't anything."
Camila raised her eyebrows. "Well, I just felt like we were becoming friends again. When you called me Camz..."
Lauren didn't even realize that she had called her by her former nickname the other day, and she regretted it instantly right after she said it. "Are you kidding me? So it rolled off my tongue, I guess I was just used to it. I mean after all, we did spend a lot of time together before I got in a drunken accident the night you pushed me off of you and ran off with someone else."
Lauren plopped the taco on her plate. "I'm suddenly not hungry anymore."
Camila and Lauren had a staring contest before Camila finally spoke up.
"I know there isn't anything I can do to change what I put you through, it was am act of my own cowardliness. and I-"
"You didn't even see how I was doing. You didn't even know. You never brought me a fucking flower or asked my family how I was. You never showed up. I was asleep for two days in the hospital, and not a word from you."
Camila was dying to tell her she was there, she really was. But she remember what Lucas said and instantly held her tongue. All she could do was look at the ground.
