Lesson 20: Pretty Up For The Player
It was hard to describe a sleepless night. As I lay on my back and stared at the plain ceiling, I wondered why tonight had to be the night that I couldn't sleep.
As I continued to lay, vultures pecked my brain menacingly, however, before I could escape the tortuous throbbing I was completely knocked out. A thick sensation invaded my body and I was blanketed with slumber.
My brain started to generate quicker before I had hoped. My eyes flickered open and my vision immediately fixated onto a bright pink slip. It was perched on my bedside drawers. Slowly, I got up and rubbed my eyes before picking up the slip.
It took me harder than I had thought to register the sentence on the sheet. As soon as I did I felt nauseous.
Lesson 20: Pretty Up For The Player.
The paper didn't say anything else; as usual she seemed to know something that I didn't. I ran my fingers through my messy hair and leaned back on the carved pine headboard. Before I could calm my raging emotions, there was a knock on the door.
Hesitatingly, let them in. "Hello Bree sweetheart. I'm right on time aren't I? That boy, Carter requested a breakfast in bed for you. He also said that he's looking forward to seeing you later, he's hoping at the least," our room maid greeted, with a fairly big tray leisurely in her hands.
Kana walked towards my bed and placed the tray onto my lap. "He asked if you could look at this." She gestured to an envelope which labelled my name in Carter's scruffy handwriting. "And said to give him a chance."
I nodded. "Okay. Thanks Kana."
"Your welcome Bree," she replied. She gave me a smile and left the room. She closed the door behind her.
I didn't look at the breakfast, my hand quickly grabbed the envelope and ripped it open.
'Hey Bree. I'm sorry about yesterday. I did mean what I said, maybe I should've given you more time. I want to talk to you so I've booked us some cruise tickets. It's only a couple hours and you don't have to come if you don't want to. I'll be on the top deck waiting. ~ Carter'
I scanned the passage twice, behind it there was the mini cruise ticket that came into contact with my fingers. A knot tied in the pit of my stomach. I didn't even look at the food.
I knew I liked Carter. But did I want to see him after everything that happened yesterday? Yet, neither did I just want to abandon him.
I looked back at the pink slip. There's no harm in trying, right?

I showered; the hot water improved my food. I placed on the first Sundress I took out of my suitcase and scoffed down my breakfast. I kept my hair out but brushed out of knots. A part of me desperately wanted Carter's fingers to run through my hair but the opposing side decided not to believe Carter. I had played him after all.
Uncharacteristically, I added a little lip gloss to my pale lips and applied the smallest amount of mascara to show off my irises. Before I talked myself into washing the make up off, I grabbed my phone, money and ticket and left my room.
The apartment was empty. I escaped through the lobby and dared not to look into the alley. I hailed a taxi and made my way to the north west edge of the island. I thanked the taxi driver with a tip. It occurred to me that I hadn't even checked the time for the boat ride. I could either be too early, late or right on time.
12:30. My phone told me it was 12:20. Swiftly, I walked onto the docking station. It was easier than I had thought to find the entrance. I entered the boat with 3 minutes to spare.
