Lesson 25: Love The Player With All Your Heart ♥

"I seriously can't do this Sandy," I admitted pathetically. She rolled her eyes at me; it was a wonder how she put up with me.

It was midday. Everyone had accustomed to the scorching sun and was doing their old thing. Well, Hudson was shooed by Sandy to get ice cream so we could talk - or for Sandy to force me to talk to Carter. I kept in mind that she meant well.

"Yes, yes you can. C'mon, I've said it, Hailey's said it and... many, many other people have said it," Sandy pointed out. I sighed. I really didn't want to do this. "We have 3 days left here anyway. Wouldn't that be romantic - first date in Hawaii? Mind you, all other dates will pale in comparison."

"Exactly!"

A part of me wished that I had already spoken to him. But, of course, life doesn't work that way.

"Oh Bree, at least get it over and done with. You even know he loves you, so I don't know why you're scared anyway," Sandy continued. I groaned and looked down at my sandal clad feet. I inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly. I looked back up at Sandy; she gave me the look.

"Okay, fine! I'll do it." I held my hands up in surrender.

"Yay!" She cheered. She clapped her hands excitedly and grabbed my shoulders. After facing me towards the sea, she gestured to a shadowed person in the horizon. "There he is."

I skipped the part when I wondered about Sandy's sixth sense and I groaned.

Bree, just do this. Get it over and done with. You've embraced it, remember?

"Wish me luck," I mumbled.

Sandy shook her head. "You don't need it. Plus luck is for leprechauns and you aren't green."

I first smiled at Sandy and then gave her a look. "That's from Eric Thomas!"

"Who cares, just go! Time's a wasting! Oh yeah, lesson 25: love the player with all your heart."

I didn't move. How could I? I continued to look at the sun kissed horizon. Carter had his back towards us and he was probably stared at the everlasting sea. He was too far for me to admire his mouth-watering indentations of his back and, unfortunately, he wasn't even topless.

I felt a gentle push which pulled me out of my reverie. I frowned. "I'm going, I'm going."

I started to stroll on the stoned pathway before I met the almost vacant beach. I slipped off my sandals and ignored the burn of the palms of my feet. With every step, the urge to run away grew. I knew Sandy would be watching me until I interacted with her twin and I also knew she could outrun me.

I dropped my sandals a foot away from Carter and stood east of him. The soft waves attacked my ankles causing to wince at first but then smile. "It's beautiful, isn't it?" I pondered aloud.

From the looks of it, it was a perfect summer day. It made me grateful that I had permanently banished the ache from my heart. I wouldn't be standing next to Carter if I hadn't.

In my peripheral vision I saw Carter glance at me. I wanted - so badly - to rip my gaze away from the sea but I didn't. "Yeah," he agreed.

His voice. Gosh, it made me feel like jelly.

I turned towards him. It's time. He seemed to do the same. He wasn't going to walk away, right? He opened his mouth the same time I did and we spoke in sync.

"I wanted to talk to you." I cracked a smile, he returned a crooked one.

"You speak first," he offered. I shook my head.
