Lesson 22: Wash Up On A Island

A content sigh left my lips. My hand brushed against something I evidently liked the feel of. I obscured my face in the crook of a neck and I was sure that my legs were tangled with someone else's. But who?

Something encircled my waist, I giggled softly at the sensation but all at a sudden I heard a thud. It wasn't loud, but I did feel it. I closed my eyes as soon as I opened them. The hot sun mercilessly splintered down onto the Earth. I opened my eyes again, they fluttered before accustoming to the light.

I noticed two things: my body was tangled with a sleeping Carter and we washed up on a island. I looked at the island confused, then at Carter and then the sea until all of yesterday's events came to mind.

I knew I shouldn't have trusted Carter to wake me up. But we're by an island, that's a good thing, right?

Before I attempted to glance back at the island, Carter shifted. I don't know why I let it happen but he paused when he lay on top on me. I was a Teddy bear in his arms.

Surprisingly, I was able to breathe and I enjoyed the position. I found myself blushing as my heart beat sped up. Did Carter always look this gorgeous? I knew he said that he loved me but how could he? I was an attraction for trouble.

Did I want to be with him?

Carter groaned. I looked up at his adorable face just in time for him to mumble my name. A chain reaction started with my toes curling and my heart racing to a shiver to run up me and a smile playing on my lips.

Does he have to sound husky when he's lying on me?

I told myself and my teenage hormones to get a grip. I couldn't fawn on him now. Should I wake him up? I raised my hand to poke his cheek. No reaction. I poked his eyelid causing them to flutter and I called out his name.

"Carter?" I whispered.

He smiled softly. "Yes baby?" My eyebrows knitted together in confusion.

"You can wake up now?"

"But it's not time..."

"Time for what?"

"The baby."

"What baby?" Carter moved his hand so it rested on my stomach.

"Our baby silly." My eyes became saucers before I knew it I had pushed him off me and somehow he ended in the water.

He yelped. "What just happened?" He exclaimed.

"I pushed you into the water?" I stated questionably.

He cocked an eyebrow at me. "Why?"

"You were lying on top of me... what were you dreaming of?"

He paused. Suddenly his cheeks went ablaze. "I wasn't... sleep talking, right?"

"We were having a conversation. I was convinced you were awake. But then you were talking about..."

"...our baby...?"

"Yes. Spare me the details." He smirked.

"Well if it makes you feel any better we were married." I tried not to blush. Did he genuinely dream of that?

"And you said your reality was better than your dreams. Liar," I taunted. He shrugged and stood up, he scanned the area.

"We're on an island?"

"Yes. I'm glad you noticed. So much for waking me up, eh?"

"You were sleeping like a baby kitty, I couldn't wake you up.

"You could've. You chose not to. But nevermind that, shall we explore the island now that we're here?"

"Do you reckon Dave will come and get us?" I asked Carter randomly. I glanced at me, he looked up from his mango.

"Dave?"

"You know, from Alvin and the Chipmunks? Tell me you have watched Chipwrecked..."

"I can't say I have. Their voices were so annoying," he replied. I gave him an incredulous look. Did he have a childhood?

"Oh really? Well it's a bad thing I invested time perfecting my chipmunk voice," I teased. "I'm a chipmunk, I'm a chipmunk, Carter, I'm a chipmunk." I expected Carter to groan at the tone but he just smiled.

"You sound so cute," he mumbled softly. Don't blush, don't blush, Bree, do not blush - I blushed.

"Did Carter just use the word cute?" I mocked.

He rolled his eyes at me but smiled nonetheless. He stays silent.

I dropped my mango pulp to the ground and Carter did the same. I got up and wiped my hands on my dress. I approached Carter and grabbed his hands. I tugged him up.

"Where are we going?" He asked curiously.

"For a walk?"

"Again?"

"Can't keep up? I joked.

"Aren't I supposed to be making the plans?"

"We're not together so not really. Plus I think a girl should be able to take her boyfriend on a date," I mused. I kept hold of one of his hands as we started to walk up the beach.

"Trying to hint something?" He smirked.

"In your dreams."

"You know what I dream about," He said. He wiggles his eyebrows suggestively and grabs my hips.

"You dirty boy." I remove myself from his grip and spontaneously sprint into the thing jungle. "Catch me if you can!"

I heard Carter's footsteps behind me. I swiftly took a sharp turn before gaining speed. I almost trip as I take yet another turn. I stop when I don't hear the sounds of Carter's footsteps. I look at my surroundings. I stood in awe as watched the magical waterfall. I stepped closer so I could feel sprays of the trickling water. I was about to reach out but a pair of hands invaded my body and tickled me.

I started to kick and punch with all my might but Carter wouldn't stop. All of a sudden my legs collapse into the soft grass. This didn't stop Carter, he crouched down and resumed his torture.

He stopped when he realized I could no longer breathe. I observed our position. Carter hovers over me as I lay. His body doesn't touch mine but I could feel the force between them. As if it was out if habit I raised my hand to flick a piece of hair away from his eyes. He eyes were firm. I could tell he loved me so it was pointless for me to deny it. But what about my own?

As I lay realization struck me like a lightning bolt. I remained motionless under Carter.

He cocks an eyebrow and opens his mouth to speak but a loud horn is heard. Carter and I mirror confused expression. Carter gets up and grabs my hand in the process.

"There's a boat," he mumbles.

"Then let's go!" I urged. He nodded and we begin to run again. A new source of adrenaline starts to pulsate through me as we run hand in hand back to the beach.

Across the dark ocean and twilight sky we see a ship. I look towards Carter and gulp. He doesn't look back at me. I wanted to look into his entrancing eyes. I loved them - no, I love him.
