Robin huffed as she helped Shane up the stairs in the block to their appartment. Not many people notcied them as they struggled, after Strach returned all her memories Robin felt more confident she recognised her way to the appartment more clearly and knew that people round here kept to themselves and avoided any attention that could draw them in.
Robin yelped as Shane slipped in her grasp and fell a little before she grabbed and helped him back up. He was getting weaker and more tired, Robin gritted her teeth as she eventually ended up dragging him to the door. Strach transferred himself so Shane could lean against the wall as she opened the door. She felt Strach fill her head and Shane fell into her, they shuffled in sync with eachother and Robin dropped him on the two seater. She wiped her forehead and took in deep breaths, she was exhausted, carrying a nearly fully grown man is hard work.
"Okay Strach Out." Robin said and Strach shimmered into view and smiled. Robin smiled back and a pang of fear hit her, Shane's eyes closed were sliding to a close. "Shane? Please stay awake, just a little longer." Robin said and looked to Strach.
"What Robin?" He asked his tone indicating he was uncomfortable knowing a secret he didn't want to keep. Robin was about to question him when the phone rang. They looked at it anxiously, Robin approached the device slowly and saw a name on the screen. Dan. Robin picked the phone up and held it to her ear.
"Robin? Robin! Are you there? Are you safe?" Dan called down the line, he must have been running because he sounded out of breath.
"Y-y-yes I'm here. We're safe. Did you get out?" Robin asked her eyes watching Shane who was watching her.
"Yes. That Blaine guy took me out and then told me to run just before... before he shot a passer by. an Innocent man who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time." Robin held herself together forcing herself not to vomit. "I'm coming to the appartment." Dan said which snapped Robin into motion.
"No. Don't come here. Shane needs to rest. I need to rest. Go home Dan." Robin instructed he tried to convince her but she stuck to her guns and eventually he agreed and hung up. Robin put the phone down and turned to Shane.
"Hey you." She said sitting beside him.
"Hey Bird." He chuckled quietly and gasped in pain.
"How are you?" She asked wincng internally.
"Well after everything that's happened, I'm quite hungry." Shane murmured and smiled under his bruises, Robin laughed at his feeble attempt to make a joke.
"Well first we need to clean you up, that should make you feel better and then I'll make us sandwiches. I don't want another bowl of soup." Robin said Shane closing his eyes slowly and wincing, she couldn't be sure if it was from her joke or from pain. Maybe both.
"Shh, soup is good." Shane said, Robin shook her head.
"Shane Please stay awake. Don't sleep just yet." Robin said trying to hide her voice breaking. Shane merely just grunted and opened his eyes looking at her with dark soft eyes.
Robin rushed into the bathroom and stared into the mirror before throwing up in the toilet. Tears escaping the guard of her eyes. She leant back and closed her eyes, She cleared the vomit away and rinsed her mouth before splashing her face and getting a damp cloth for Shane. She came back into the living room where Shane was sat his eyes watching Strach who perched himself on the windowsill. Robin sat by Shane while she dabbed at his face to clear the dirt and blood away, he flinched at first and glared at her before relaxing and let her fnish.
Finally he was completely cleared up and now his skin was just a mixture of blue, purples greens and his actual skin tone. Robin felt agony seeing him like this but kept her mind focused on simple tasks.
"Right, about that sandwhich." Robin said cheerfully and stood up, Shane grabbed her hand.
"No, I'm not hungry. Please just sit with me and stay here." He pleaded his eyes innocent and childlike. Robin looked at him and nodded. She sat back down and Shane curled into her.
"Of course." She whispered and stroked his hair. Shane's heartbeat faint against his ribs. His breath rattling.
"Robin. Can you do something for me?" Shane asked quietly. Robin looked down at his head he was nestled in her shoulder.
"Yes Shane?" She asked he's never asked her to do something for him he just did what he wanted.
"Tell me about our good life again." He breathed into her neck. Robin smiled and closed her eyes.
"Okay. Imagine me and you. We're stood in this apartment with our bags packed. Ellie has come to pick us up. We sit in the car talking and joking about everything we usually joke about. I'll sing lyrics to all my favourite songs from my favourite bands and you joke about how bad I sound." A pause and they both chuckle. "We arrive at the care home and stay for a couple of days while we find our perfect apartment. This time in South London. We go to check it out and it's perfect. We move in as soon as we want to, and on every evening when your home we curl up on the sofa. We turn on the TV onto the most mind numbing, terrible TV programmes and just sit there and laugh at how life is never like how it is potrayed on TV. And when you go away on your job as a roadie you take me with you and we go to all the most amazing parties and chat with famous bands, I'll still be working in the cafe and you get free cake. This will be a good life, It will be our good life." Robin finished tears in her eyes her hand in Shanes hair her other in his hand.
"Robin, he's-" Strach started and Robin looked at him.
"I know." Robin said quietly and kissed the top of her best friends head. His hands were cold, his lips parted slightly, his eyes shut. He was more at peace than he had even been. Robin held onto him for just a little longer.
I knew our good life wouldn't happen. There's no such thing for people like me and Shane. We were just unlucky so I hope whoever feels like this they will make a good life for themselves. Because me and Shane are watching over you.
Robin wiped the tears from her eyes and looked at Strach who was stood in front of her. "Please leave." She said barely audible.
"Robin I-"
"I SAID LEAVE!" Robin roared and Strach looked hurt. He gave her one last look and then left the apartment.
"I'm so sorry Shane. I'm sorry, I tried my best. I'm sorry I left you." Robin cried into his hair. "I promised you I wouldn't leave you. I'm not going to." Robin said to his still body. She manouvered around him and dragged him to the bathroom. She ran the water in the bath and felt her heart beat faster it's silent protests ignored. "I'll be with you soon. I love you Shane." Robin whispered and climbed into the bath. Shane lied beside her. She focused on his face as the water covered her face filling up her nostils. She opened her mouth and water filled her lungs. She thought the urge to cough and jump out of the bath, her brain shouting at her that she was drowning.
Shane laid silent beside her pale and peaceful. Robin's vison began to dim Shane started to flicker out of her view and soon the blackness hugged round her wrapping her up safely from anymore harm.
"Take my hand Robin." Shane's voice whispered, and Robin stretched out eagerly. "No more pain. Time for our good life." Shane murmured and Robin nodded. They walked into the darkness together, and Robin's last breath escaped her lips.
"Shane." She murmured then she became still.
Their bodies laid with each other, his hair a wet mop on his head her's spiralling out dangerously around her face. Both their faces peaceful, happy. Blaine stood over the bathtub, a sneer on his face. He had already called the police he just came to say his final goodbyes to the sleeping unfortunates. He heard the sirens and took out his device shimmering out of view. Never to be seen again.
