Dear Diary,

Shane came home really late last night. I was asleep when I heard the front door. I stayed in bed too scared to look to see whether it was Shane, I don't like the dark and the flat was still new to me. But I heard him muttering to himself and open cupboards in the kitchen. He probably thinks I'm asleep so I stayed where I was eventually he went into his room and he still hasn't gotten up. What could he have been doing that was so late? Why am I even questioning him? Shane is smart he won't be doing anything that could send him back to that place would he?

Robin.

"Shane?" Robin called through the bedroom door. "Are you awake?" She put her head against the door so she could hear inside. She heard bed covers rustling and heard Shane come to the door. She stepped back as the door opened just enough to reveal one blue eye.

"Yeah I'm up."

"Why are you hiding? Shane?" Robin tried to see more of his face but he stayed mostly hidden. "Shane what's happend?" She asked shocked when he kept her from seeing him.

"It's nothing Robin. I'm fine." He replied in a jokey manner. She didn't believe him and pushed the door further open and froze in shock. His left eye was bruised and he had a split lip, he was only wearing a pair of jogging bottoms so she could see his bruised ribs.

"Shane!" Robin cried. "What happened to you!!" She shouted terrified at seeing her friend so hurt.

"I had an accident at work I dropped a box. Nothing for you to worry about okay Robin." Shane said with his little smile trying to reassure her. Robin wasn't convinced he was okay but after many attempts at trying to get him to elaborate on what happened Shane repeated what he originally said. She gave up in the end, when there is something Shane doesn't want to tell you he won't tell you. I wish I had pushed it further now.

After Robin made breakfast which was two bowls of cereal and a glass of milk, she changed out of her pyjamas and sat on the sofa. She didn't have work until the afternoon so the whole morning was free to how she wanted to spend it. This meant she was curled up reading one of her books that she loved.

She was re-reading chapter five of 'Billy and Me' when Shane started acting weirdly. At first she didn't notice until she caught him out of the corner of her eye walking out of the living room. "Shane?" She called but his reply was silent and she could hear him wandering around by the bedrooms. She didn't bother him until he spent an hour in the bathroom.

"Shane? Are you okay?" She asked walking to the closed bathroom door, her door was open which she had closed after leaving. "Have you been in my room?" She asked shocked banging on the door.

"I'm okay. I just. Don't laugh okay?" He called back.

"Laugh? Why would I laugh? What have you done?" The door unlocked and Shane appeared behind the door. Robin burst into a fit of giggles.

"Don't laugh!" Shane whined.

"Shane! I can't not laugh! What on earth were you thinking! You look like an umpa lumpa!!" Robin cried through her tears of laughter.

"Right leave now," Shane started to close the bathroom door and Robin held it open.

"Okay. OKay. I'll stop laughing. Why do you have my foundation and blusher?" Robin asked. It seemed Shane had went in her room to use her make-up.

"I needed something to hide the bruises and the split lip." Shane mumbled looking at the train wreck on his face, Robin tried her best to use a sympathetic smile.

"Come here." She washed the make-up off his face and pulled him into the living room. "Now hold still while I sort you out and not make it obvious you're wearing make-up." Shane did as he was told and they sat at the breakfast bar where Robin worked on his face. A couple of minutes passed when she took a step back admiring her work.
