I stared at my side for a moment longer before screaming at the top of my lungs for help. People came Rushing and I could feel Mom pick me up just as I blacked out. I wasn't sure what was going on exactly because of the injury I couldn't think straight as hard as I tried. I woke up again in the hospital with bags of blood hooked up to me and there were several layers of bandages around my waist. There was a doctor and a nurse at the side of the bed and I could see Mom sitting on a chair in the corner of the room, tears staining her cheeks. The doctor looked at me and said, "You lost a lot of blood when you cut your left side open." While he was talking, the nurse came with a glass of water. I drank it gratefully, for the first time realizing how thirsty I was. Mom came up to the bed and kissed me as I went back to sleep. I felt tired and lightheaded so  I just shut my eyes and immediately felt better. I rolled onto my left side and what had been a dull ache turned into a wave of shock and I immediately opened my eyes and rolled to the other side. The doctor told me to stay off that side until the bandages were off in a few weeks. As mom took me home she told me a piece of the glass bottle I tripped on tore a 10-centimeter gash on my side and I lost about a pint of blood. I was a bit surprised but mostly shocked that a single glass bottle could rip someone open like that. Soon I was home and my mom gave me a lot of food that I wasn't sure I would be able to eat. I felt sick to my stomach from the hospital bed and what happened when I rolled over.

Mom smiled. "You'll eat it when you are hungry enough," she said.

I shrugged and replied, " I'm not sure when I will be hungry enough with what happened.

Mom just smiled. She knew about how I was very hurt and my body was trying to recover from the accident. She did not make me eat but instead sent me to bed. "You need your strength," was her reason. I went up to my room and lay in my bed but found I could not go to seep no matter how hard I  tried. So I gave up and read the book that I am working on reading,  The Hobbit. it was written a really long time ago, in the 1960's, and it is 2040 now. The book is not in the best shape and the cover is battered up pretty bad and I am thinking of having it restored. I'm almost done it and I have the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy to read yet. I am vastly looking forward to it. I started to nibble on a piece of toast Mom had given me.
