CHAPTER 2

LORENCE entered her cousin's house after Eden dropped her off there. Pero pagkapasok pa lang niya, kaagad niyang napansin na parang may kakaiba. Granted na madilim dahil hindi pa niya nabubuksan ang ilaw, pero hindi talaga niya maalis ang kakaibang nararamdaman niya. Trusting her instinct, she kept the lights off and cautiosly entered the house. And then suddenly, she felt it.

A hand appeared behind her and tried to cover her mouth. Mabilis na hinawakan niya iyun and then tried to flip the owner using the technique she learned in Judo. Pero hindi iyun umubra, the attacker probably twisted it's body and landed on it's feet. Hindi siya sigurado dahil madilim ang paligid. The attacker then swept her legs making her fall on the carpeted floor on her back. She tried to stand up but the felt her attacker's arm on her neck, pinning her on the ground and it's weight rendering her unable to move.

"Easy there, WILDFIRE."

She knew that voice. The last time she heard from her was after her squad's mission that gone wrong. It was not a total failure, but it was not successful either. The bomb exploded and their suspect's brain scattered. Muli niyang ibinalik ang atensyon sa taong umatake sa kanya.

"CJ? What the hell!"

The woman released her and she quickly went to the light switch and flipped it on. Tumambad sa kanya ang nakangiting mukha babae. Probably pleased with herself for catching her off guard.

"Getting a bit rusty, are we WILDFIRE?"

"Don't surprise me like that." she said exasperatedly. "I could have hurt you."

"So am I." nakangiti pa ring sabi nito. "Would you like some coffee?"

"You can't just attack someone and then asked them for coffee."

"I just did."

Hinilot niya ang sintido at malalim na napabuntong-hininga. Trying to calm herself down. Dealing with her friends was really exhausting.

"Paano ka nakapasok?" maya-maya'y tanong niya dito.

"The door was open. Maybe you forgot to lock it or you purposely left it that way." CJ deadpanned.

Saka niya naalala na sa pagmamadali niya kanina, nakalimutan niyang ikandado ang pintuan. Okay lang naman kahit iwan niyang bukas ang bahay, safe naman kasi ang village na tinitirhan niya sa Skyland.

Skyland is a subdivision in Batangas owned by CJ's cousin Alec d'Angelo. Kumpleto sa amenities and lugar. They have a church, clinic and a grocery store. Isa pa sa nakadagdag sa appeal ng subdivision bukod sa amenities at view ay ang security. The Villegas Brothers were the one in charge of the safety of the residents. At kahit pa walang mamahala sa seguridad ng lugar, wala pa ring magtatangkang gumawa ng kalokohan doon dahil naroon din ang headquarters ng COMBUSTIN.

"Sayang, hindi mo naabutan si Ronalyne." sabi niya rito ng makabawi siya sa ginawa nitong panggugulat.

Ronalyne, another one of their friends, left for Singapore earlier that day. Kung anuman ang gagawin nito doon, hindi na niya naitanong dahil sa pagmamadali niya.

"Va bene. (It: It's okay.)" sabi nito sa kanya. "Nagkita kami sa airport bago siya umalis."

Hindi siya fluent sa Italian, but she can understand a few words. At dahil sa tagal na rin ng pinagsamahan nila ni CJ, nasanay na rin siya sa paiba-ibang paraan nito ng pagsasalita. Lalung-lalo na, kapag nagagalit o nawawala ito sa sarili. Which is...madalas na mangyari sa babae.

"Wait, kung nagkita kayo sa airport. Ibig sabihin kanina ka pang dumating. Where were you?"

"I was busy."
