''Trust me Manik, I was just about to tell you.. I didn't mean to hide it but so much happened and I didn't have the time...''
''Woah .. woah .. hold on.. Its okay! Its not a crime to read detective novels!!'' Manik laughed in an amused fashion, the mock-seriousness melting away.
''Detective novels?!'' I asked, bewildered.
''Yeah all these Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie books you have in your bag.. I didn't know you had an interest in reading these.'' He said, holding up the books he'd found. I gulped and nodded. For a moment there, I had forgotten how to breathe, thinking he had found the case file and here he was talking about some harmless novels I loved reading.
''Manik, there's something more you need to know about me.'' I said, taking a deep breath and deciding now was the time to fess up. ''Talking baad mein.. Let's get you changed out of this nurse costume first..'' He cut me off in an unarguable tone, beginning with the buttons on it. His passionate gaze was only stuck on my eyes as he popped open the buttons and even for a moment I didn't feel uncomfortable as he changed my clothes. Desire? Yes. But that was undying. I could never have enough of my Manik.
His fingers ran down my bare tummy as he slid down my night-shirt and I sucked it in, suppressing a moan. He noticed my reaction and found an excuse to over-do the touches. Having changed into comfortable and warm clothes, I felt the effects of the meds kicking in, trying to push me to sleep. Manik laughed as I tried to shake my head and force my groggy eyelids open, so that I could talk to him.
''Why do you have to be so stubborn? Kal baat kar lengey na..'' He said and placing a gentle kiss on my forehead, tucked me in. I slipped into deep sleep before I could even utter a word.

I woke up, expecting to be cocooned in his warmth but the emptiness around me made me open my eyes and get up abruptly. I tried not to panic as I ran my eyes around the room, trying to find Manik. A knock sounded on the door and at first I sighed in relief before realising that Manik would never knock for permission to enter into his own room.
''Come in.''
Babu entered with a breakfast tray in hand.
''Madam. Yeh lijiye aapka nashta aur dawayi. Saab ne kaha ki agar aap uth jaaye toh unhe call kar lena.'' He said before placing the tray on the bedside table and leaving the room.I found my phone next to my pillow. Probably placed there by Manik. I quickly dialled in his number and waited impatiently for him to pick it up. ''Where the hell are you?!'' I asked as soon as I heard him receiving it, without even waiting for him to speak. I heard a chuckle before his calming voice drifted into my ears. ''That's a very warm way to greet people. Good Morning Baby-girl.. How are you feeling?'' He asked, the sarcasm evident in his voice.
''Don't tell me you left for college already. You should be with me right now..'' I complained, ignoring whatever he asked and jumping straight to the point.
''Erm.. I'm actually in Pune right now..'' A guilt-ridden reply met my ears.
''WHAT?!''
I could imagine him flinching at the way I shouted.
''Relax. Before you panic, let me explain. My Dad called last night to inform that he will be going away to Japan for atleast 3 months on a business trip and wanted to spend sometime with me before leaving. Nandini, I really didn't want to leave you like that but he's the only family I have and I just had to come here. I'll be back really soon..''
''Its okay, Manik. I understand.'' I answered gently. I didn't want to be selfish now because I had seen how important his father was for him and he really did love his Dad, despite the love Mr Malhotra still had for Nyonika .
