''My baby!!!''

Both of us stood frozen for a second and I heaved, beads of sweat rolling down my forehead and my entire body shaking like a leaf. I had managed to move my body away at the right time and the knife missed me by merely a few inches. If I would have been a little late, it would have killed my child and probably me too.

Before he could attack a second time, I pushed him away with all the strength I could muster and ran away as fast as I could. I could've tried fighting him, but he would have had the upper hand with the knife, and I couldn't risk my baby's life. Pushing people out of my way, I found myself on the dance floor again. I threw a glance behind, my heart pounding hard against my chest and my eyes threatening to fill up with tears. While people around me grooved to happy tunes, I frantically looked around for Manik, but he wasn't back yet. Near the bar counter though, I spotted Cabir and Navya. I rushed to them and panted
''M-manik.. k-kahan hai?

''Nandini, whats wrong?! You've gone pale and look at the way you're shaking!! Tumhaari tabiyat toh theek hai na? Huwa kya hai?'' Navya exclaimed, shouting in concern and holding me by my arms to support me.

''Navya, I need Manik.. Please, I need him.. Bolo na, where is he?'' I wept in her arms, my desperation had now grown to no limit.

''Nandini, relax. Your boy-friend is on the terrace and has asked you to come up in 2 minutes.. There's something there for you.. Just 2 minutes and your wait will come to an end!'' Cabir winked naughtily, probably assuming I was just unduly worried about Manik.

I shook my head and ran upstairs. This couldn't wait. Half-way through, I felt pain shoot through my ankles and so I simply took off my wedges and threw them away, continuing to run barefoot.

As soon as I pushed open the door to the terrace, silver glittering little stars showered upon me but I had no time to admire or enjoy the beautiful shower of stars, for finding Manik was more important. I ran in and was taken aback. The terrace was lit up by lovely golden lights and red heart-shaped balloons covered the entire ground space and yet, in the fraction of a second, my eyes were back to searching for my world and finally, I found him. He stood blissfully unaware, infront of a huge cake, lighting a candle on it. A gentle smile played on his lips and he didn't even notice me come in - lost in his own dreams.

Not able to wait another moment, I ran upto him and threw myself on to him. He stumbled under the sudden attack, but immediately balanced both of us, by holding my waist steadily. ''Nandini!! How did you come up here? The final touches were yet to be done and I even missed your expression as you walked in!! Yeh Cabir se ek kaam bhi nahi kiya jaata na..'' He ranted, sounding upset that his surprise got ruined.

I seperated myself just enough to look at his face. ''Manik...O-our ba-baby..'' I sobbed, speaking in an interrupted flow. Concern immediately over-powered all emotions on his face and he cupped my face ''What happened, Nandini?!'' He was the only person who loved the little unborn life as much as I did, and his worry made me cry harder.

''Nothing happened.. But, we almost lost the baby.. That attacker..''

''Which attacker?! Can you speak clearly?!!'' He screamed in exasperation and worry.

''The same person because of whom I had gotten injured on the night of my birthday party.. The same person who had purposely sped that red car of his towards me on the night of Cabir and Navya's engagement.. He .. is here..'' I explained, trying hard not to let my sobs get in the way of my speech.

''And do you know who he is?'' Manik asked, his voice sounding extremely lethal, like he had no other plans but to kill that man.

''Dhruv.'' I replied.
