     Max's POV

I was sitting on the yellow couch, just watching TV like I would any other day. I was planning out the next 'Do Not Laugh' for Thursday, when I started to hear yelling. I looked up to still see everyone recording or editing in their offices, so I turned my attention back to the TV, only to see bright red and orange flames eating up a house, which I vaguely thought looked familiar. As I looked towards the address of the house, I threw all of my stuff off the couch, and catapulted over the ottoman. People gave me a concerned look as I waved my way to and fro to get out of the offices. I didn't stop running for nearly 10 minutes, and saw what I hoped I wouldn't. I ran towards the stretcher, only to have the police push me back as they told me I couldn't cross the line. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, and I fell on my knees and cried at the horrific site.

I heard a siren wailing in the distance, and knew that it was the ambulance finally arriving at the house that had burned down. I also heard a car or two pull up behind me, and I instantly knew it was my friends from the offices. I turned around and ran towards them, collapsing in their embracing arms as they questioned me as to why I cared so much about the house. "It's not the house I care about. It was the person inside it," I exclaimed. As I was about to continue talking, I turned around and looked at her. She had burn marks all across her, and I stood up and walked towards her. I told the police not to push me back, for I had a right to go near the person. They let me pass, and within 10 seconds, I stood over my girlfriend, Briana, as she was unconscious. I held her hand as they lifted her up into the back of the ambulance. I told my friend Adam that I would be back within a couple of days, if not a week, so that way I could spend time with her. He nodded his head, and rested his hand on my shoulder reassuringly, and I turned back and walked up into the ambulance, sitting next to the love of my life as we drove to the hospital, awaiting what would happen next.

               TIME LAPSE

Briana's POV

I woke up to find myself laying down, with people beside me running and yelling something that I couldn't quite grasp. I lifted my head up every so slightly, only to find a sharp pain running down my spine. As I started to put my head back down, I saw Max with a tear-streaked face to the left of me, holding my hand. I started to remember me being knocked to the floor by a flaming piece of wood. I remembered trying to get my only picture of my family when the next moment here I was, laying down on what seemed to be a stretcher. I tried to speak, but as my mouth opened, all I could do was cough up smoke, which caused even more pain. I couldn't feel my arms at all, neither my legs. I tried to hold back the tears, but it was to late. But even the tears hurt, due to the fact that they had soot all in them. I turned my head back towards Max, and managed to smile. The next thing I knew, the world around me had turned black, and I knew that I wouldn't be waking up for a while.

I woke up and looked around to find myself laying down in what seemed to be a hospital room. I was just about to speak, when I heard a voice next to me. It was Max. I turned my head to see him sitting right next to me, with bags under his eyes and messy hair and a tear stricken face. He was holding my hand, even though I couldn't feel it at all. I tried talking, but I realized that I couldn't, for the pain was like having hundreds of needles being forced down your throat all at once. "Briana, I am so sorry this happened. It should have been me. I should be in your place right now. The doctors say that you are getting better, and I am trying to believe them. Even though you are going through all of this pain, I still have to tell you. The doctors say that you have been paralyzed from your elbows down. You also can't speak for a while, only if you want to inflict damage to your voice box. I am so, so sorry." He turned away so that way I couldn't see him cry. I wish that in this moment I could sit up and wipe away his tears. If I hadn't gone back in to get my phone so that way I could tell Max my news, I probably wouldn't be here right now. I should have been more responsible. If only I could tell Max... if only.
