Chapter 1
"I don't know what to do..." Erin cried in Jay's arms. He sighed, knowing what might have to be done in order to save both their lives.
"Tell him its not mine..." He mumbled, unsure of what Erin's reaction would be.
She immediately pulled out his arms, and pushed him away violently. "You think I'm just some slut?!?!" Erin screamed, her voice blaring through every wall in that small apartment. Jay knew he had made a mistake by suggesting that, so he quickly backed up his decision. "I don't know! Maybe he won't find out!" Judging by the look on Erin's face after he said that, he knew he hadn't made things any better. In fact, he had made them worse. A lot worse.
"He's fucking Hank Voight! He always finds out- he has his ways! You know this, dammit!" She yelled, not even bothering to make an attempt to stop the tears that now poured down her frowning face. "I'm sorry, okay? I'm sorry! I just don't know what to do anymore. I don't want to lose my job and..." "Oh, so this is all about you, suddenly? Isn't it, Jay?" Erin was quick to snap at Jay, her hormones still all over the place.
"Don't put this on me, Erin! You're the one who wanted to sleep with me so badly! And now the one time that you did, you decide to get pregnant!" Jay raised his voice at his girlfriend. "I got pregnant!? So this is on me, now?!?" Erin could barely make out a sentence, before her words were replaced with loud, viscous sobs. Jay's face fell, as he was forced to stand there and listen to the sounds of her loud wails. "I'm sorry, I-" "Just shut up, Jay! Just fucking shut up! I'll get an abortion, I'll tell him it wasn't you, okay?! I'll do whatever the fuck you want me to, just leave me alone!" With that, she was gone. She sprinted to the bedroom, never looking back.
THE NEXT DAY
Jay had gotten no sleep that night. He was too afraid of what Voight was going to do to him when he got back to work. And on top of all this, he had to go and screw everything up, so now Erin hated him too. Some moments it was hard to stay strong, as it constantly felt as though his world was falling apart.
As he awoke he was suddenly left frazzled. Instead of looking around to see the familiar and comforting walls of his girlfriend's bedroom, he was welcomed by a stale aroma and unwelcoming walls. He was left perplexed as he realized that he was standing in front of the couch in Erin's apartment. Then the events of the previous night came back to him, and it all made so much sense.
He was about to doze off into thought, when he suddenly heard the bedroom door open. Erin emerged, wearing only a towel around her body, another towel wrapped around her wet hair, and mascara stains on her cheeks from the night before. Jay's heart crumbled and fell onto the floor in a million little pieces as he scanned the dry tear marks on his girlfriends face, knowing that it was him who had caused those. "Erin..." He approached her, extending an arm towards her shoulder, which was quickly and violently thrown off. "No, Jay! You've made your opinion very clear! I don't ever want you back in my apartment again!" She paused for a minute, and Jay wondered if he should chime in, but he decided to keep his mouth shut, realizing that he had done enough damage already.
With that, she stormed out of the apartment, not even bothering to stop and grab something remotely breakfast related from the kitchen, and she was out the door in seconds. Jay leaned his arm on the wall of the hallway, and leaning his head on his wrist, before taking his fist and violently smashing a hole in the wall of his girlfriend's apartment. He stormed to the closet and picked up his jacket, before rushing out the door into the cold Chicago morning.
