***the title of the poem is at the end***

Momma said you'd be home today
but I saw on the news
that people were shot
and momma sat on the sofa and cried
and I didn't understand. Why would
anyone take you away? You had hopes and dreams
just like us. You were a person just like us.
Only thing different was that you loved a little different.
Where are you now? Did the shooter know
that you had a family?
I'm waiting for you to walk through the front door
today just like yesterday-
your shoes are still at the door, your clothes are still
in your closet and your room is still the way you left it-
I don't understand!
Why did he pick you, out of all people?
Did he know he was picking a nice person
a good person who paid his bills and treated everyone
with so much compassion?
I am still waiting for you to come home,
and you are not here. I'm still waiting for
your posts on social media-and they are not there.
I like to pretend
that the news isn't true. How could you just leave me here?
Your room looks like someone put it on pause,
not
a room that looks like
the room of a person who is never coming home again.
I do not weep for you. My insides are numb, I cannot feel.
I am not me without you!
There is anger, so much anger
at the man that did this to you, just another
man like you. Does he not realize what he's done?
If you were here you'd tell me to let it go,
but you were someone with a hope and a dream
and a life and a soul and a heart and a mind
and now
you
are
g o n e.

[A/N the world is such a dark place. Please spread love and light and kindness. My heart breaks for the victims: Christina and the 50 others that died in the Orlando shootings over the weekend. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. If you are an American, now is the time to make a change. Push for tighter gun control. This senseless violence needs to end. Please donate blood as well if you are able!

I love you.
