Kaewa ran up the stairs and pushed open her room door. She stood startled when she saw a young woman with hazel brown hair wearing a dark blue costume sitting on her bed. Kaewa quickly looked around making sure Albert wasn’t around and she got inside her room and closed the door behind her. She looked at the girl again. The girl opened her mouth to speak. “What do you want Kylin?” Kaewa asked angrily. Tempest took off her mask and looked at Kaewa. It had been eight years since their parents died and Kylin had never once come over to visit her other than the day of the funeral. But that wasn’t even to visit her.
She remembered the events of the day of the funeral. It was after everyone had left. The sky began to darken. Kaewa ran into the house and up two flights of stairs with Albert right behind her. She ran into Kylin’s room and locked herself in. Albert reached a little too late. He stood outside the door trying to console her and asking her to let him in. “Kaewa please let me in.” Albert pleaded and she could feel the sadness in his voice. Kaewa picked up the photo frame beside Kylin’s bed. She looked at it as she settled herself on the windowsill. “I know this is hard, please let me help...” Albert was saying and Kaewa zoned out. She felt sadness gripping her heart as she stared at the happy smiling picture of their family, her heart wailing louder than a thunderstorm. She had no one left in this world. Her parents died and Kylin wanted nothing to do with her. She stared at the picture of their family. They all seemed happy and their family was complete. A tear drop fell on to the photo frame and she quickly wiped it away. She didn’t realize that she had begun to cry. Streams of tears rolled down her cheeks and she could barely see. She looked out the window at the sky that seemed to grow darker and cloudier than before. There was a sudden flash of lightning followed by the sound of thunder and she watched the drops of rain fall on the window. Then she saw a figure in the sky just above the backyard. The figure got clearer as it began to move closer to the ground. The figure looked like a girl with hazel brown hair wearing a dark blue costume her face covered by a dark blue mask that matched her costume. She landed softly on the ground. The girl didn’t notice Kaewa watching her from the window above. She stood in front of the tombstones and looked down at the ground. Kaewa couldn’t take her eyes off of her. The girl raised her right hand to her face and pulled of her mask. Kaewa gasped. ‘Kylin.’ She whispered. She felt her heart race. Kylin began to cry profusely and she knelt down on her knees. Kylin stayed on the ground for a few minutes. Soon she rose up to her feet and began to wipe her tears away. She was about to turn and leave when her eyes caught a reflection in the rain puddle in front of her. Kylin looked up immediately and saw Kaewa crying in her room and looking down at her. She stood there for a second and then rose up in the air and flew away. “Kaewa please let me in.” She heard Albert plead.
“Kaewa?” Kylin said breaking into Kylin’s thoughts. “Eight years.” Kaewa said looking at Kylin. Kylin looked at the floor unable to make eye contact. “I was all alone.” Kaewa whispered in a pained voice. Whenever she had tried to contact Kylin, she would always have an excuse to not come. Kylin rose up and walked towards Kaewa. Kaewa took a step back and unintentionally backed into the door. “I’m sorry.” Kylin said stopping in her tracks seeing that Kaewa didn’t trust her. Kaewa looked away from Kylin. “I was six.” She said softly. Kylin closed off all the distance between them and hugged her. “I know. I’m so sorry.” Kylin repeated. Kaewa embraced her sister back tears flowing through her eyes.Kaewa pulled out the wooden chest from behind her closet and began to open it. “You look different.” Kylin said looking at Kaewa’s hair. “A lot of things change in eight years.” Kaewa said unlocking the chest. She pulled out her costume and turned it to show Kylin. “You are the purple streak?” Kylin asked still stunned. “You are Tempest.” Kaewa grinned. “Batman said it might be you.” Kylin confessed. Kaewa looked at her surprised. “He seems to be impressed with your work.” Kylin added. They sat in silence for some time. “We are bringing in the apprentices.” Kylin said. Kaewa looked at her confused. “Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad and Speedy.” Kylin elaborated. “I wanted to ask if you would want to join the team as well.” Kylin asked.
