N.H.
Marcel had told me to stay in his room until he knew for sure that his father had left for work; he didn't want to risk me getting hurt at the hands of his father. Honestly, I wish I had gotten here sooner last night to stop Marcel's father from hurting him. In fact, I wish I wouldn't have let him leave my house. I feel as if him getting hurt was partially my fault. Marcel told me it wasn't numerous times. He told me that it was his fault because he had provoked his father. It didn't matter to me, no one should ever lay their hands on Marcel like that.
I was laying on his bed staring at the ceiling for what seemed like forever until I heard his bedroom door open. Thinking it was Marcel, I quickly sat up only to be let down to see it wasn't him, but his sister.
"Let's get this out of the way right now," she began after she closed the bedroom door. "If you so much as hurt my brother—"
"I would never hurt Marcel," I said truthfully.
"Well if you did..."
"Which I won't."
She huffed loudly and rolled her eyes.
"If you ever hurt my brother, I'll come after you."
I got up from Marcel's bed and walked towards his sister. I was right in front of her now.
"What made you decide to be the better older sister now? Hmm?"
I know it really wasn't any of my business, but from what I've heard so far from Marcel, his sister didn't care about him at all. So what changed.
"I don't think that's any of your business, Niall."
She folded her arms across her chest.
"I realize that, but Marcel has told me a lot, okay? I want to protect him. That's all I want. I want to keep him safe and I can't do that if what you're doing isn't actually true. So, again, what made you decide to be the better older sister now?"
Gemma sighed and placed her arms at her sides.
"It was something he said to me the other day...it was after he was beaten up by those bullies of his. He had asked me what I would do if I had found his lifeless body in his room one day. And it really h-hurt, you know? T-to think that my baby brother was in that much pain that he...that he would even consider..." She sniffled and I could see the tears strolling down her cheeks; but was any of this even real? "He's tried to take his life three times, Niall! A-and honestly now that you're around? He's the happiest I've ever seen him. A-and I don't want that to go away. So p-please! Please don't hurt my baby brother. I can't bear to lose him. I might have been a shitty sister in the past, but I'm trying. I really am. He's all I have left."
I still couldn't tell if Gemma was being sincere or not, but I had to believe her until she proved herself otherwise.
"I get that, okay? And your brother makes me happy too. I never want to hurt him. I promise."
The door began to open again and in stepped Marcel.
"Oh there you two are," He sounded so happy. "So, I got the rest of my things together, Niall. Some video games and even movies."
I smiled at him and Gemma did too. Marcel said his goodbye to her and I grabbed some of his bags and headed out of the room; Marcel was behind me with his other bags. When we got outside, we placed his bags on the backseat of my car.
I watched as Marcel looked back at his house to see his sister in the doorway.
"Don't worry about me, Marcel," she called out. "I'll be okay. I'll stay at a friends house too until you come back."
