'Liz there's a customer waiting in the front, table 5, can you take it please? My break is about to start' Nancy said, walking into the back room.
For a Saturday lunchtime, service was pretty slow. So slow, in fact, that Lizzy was able to take an early break.
'Yeah no problem' Smiling, Lizzy said, standing up.As Lizzy walked into the main part of the diner, behind the counter, she looked to see a few people scattered around all with food.
Then, her eyes went over to the back corner where table 5 was located.
There, grinning upon her arrival, was Ace. Her heart rate increased slightly.
Glancing around, she saw there were no other staff she could pass this off to.'How can I help you, sir?' Lizzy said walking next to his table and getting her notebook out.
'Sir?' Ace repeated, an amused look on his face, causing her to nod back.
'Well, madam' he began, smirking 'to be honest, I only came here for you'
Lizzy hesitated for a second. She knew she had to stop this, she knew she had to put her foot down. It didn't matter if she felt something or not. He was Ace Merrill. She would end up heartbroken. But that didn't matter anyway because they could never get close enough for her to become heart broken. Her father would never allow it. So, all in all, she knew she had to at least try to cut Ace off.
'Ace, you know I have some real customers I need to attend to? I haven't got time for these stupid games' she said, turning around to walk away, pretending she didn't care and that there were actually customers who needed her.
Grabbing her wrist, Ace stopped her walking away and turned her body around slightly.
'Ooo, where you off to in such a rush?' He asked.
'To do what I'm actually here to do, which is work, not be pestered by you' Lizzy said, turning the full way to face him again.
'C'mon hear me out'
Lizzy sighed, 'you have 2 minutes' she said, sitting down. She could at least listen to what he has to say, right?
'Come hang out with us today' Ace said, causing Lizzy to scoff slightly but he didn't let that interrupt him.
'You don't know who we are babe' leaning in, he said.
'I think I have a pretty good idea actually' Lizzy replied, keeping her back against the booth.
Ace said nothing. Keeping eye contact, he sighed.
'You know how many girls would kill to be in your position right now?' He said, disbelief prominent in his voice.
'Guess I'm not like other girls' she shrugged.
'You can say that again'
'Guess I'm not like other girls' Lizzy repeated, laughing. Taking joy in another silly joke she made.
Smiling at her, Ace shook his head slightly.
'You're so stupid' he said jokingly. Causing Lizzy laugh again, she knew her sense of humour was silly, she lightly said 'I know'
'C'mon' Ace started a couple seconds later, 'what have you gotta loose? All you have to do is hang out with us for a few hours. If you get bored you can leave' he simply explained.Sitting there, Lizzy contemplated. He made it all sound so easy. Like there was nothing that could go wrong. She knew what could go wrong, she knew all too well. Lizzy sat there knowing she could never fall for Ace but she found it so difficult to cut him off like she knew she needed to do. She almost couldn't help the words that came out of her lips just a few moments later.
'Okay, but just for a little bit' Lizzy said.
A victorious grin appeared on Ace's face.
'What time do you finish here?' He asked.
Looking up at the clock, Lizzy saw it was 12:13.
'Bout an hour' she replied, standing up.
'I'll pick you up at yours at 2:30' Ace said, also standing up from the booth.
'Okay' she said beginning to walk away, 'but' she started, turning back around to him, 'don't park right in front of my house'
'Sure' he nodded, walking out the door, the victorious grin still planted on his face.
Lizzy stood there for a second. What had she just done? What if her Dad found out? God forbid she hung out with boys, especially boys her age. It would have terrible results she was sure. Looking out of the window in a slight panic, she couldn't see Ace.
'Guess I'll just have to be careful' she thought to herself.Down the street, Ace met back up with the rest of The Cobras.
'So? She coming or what?' Eyeball asked.
'Course she is' Ace replied with a smirk, causing the boys to cheer. It wasn't much of a surprise he had persuaded a girl to hang out but The Cobras cheered him on anyway.
'Today will be good' Charlie said after the cheering stopped
'Sure will' Ace said in agreement, grinning. He couldn't wait till 2:30.
