-At the Cave-
"Team, we have a mission. Come for debriefing," Nightwing's voice echoed over the newly installed loudspeakers in the cave.
Hearing the call, the team quickly changed into their gear and assembled in the training area. As soon as everyone gathered, Nightwing wasted no time.
"There's been suspicious activity—potential drug trade and illegal operations—at this location." He pointed at a highlighted spot on the map before continuing. "We need two of you to conduct a simple recon mission. No fighting, just recon." His tone was stern, clearly emphasizing this point, as their track record with 'just recon' was less than stellar. "Blue Beetle, Wonder Girl, are you up for it?" It was phrased like a question, but everyone knew it was an order.
"Of course," Blue Beetle responded confidently.
"Yeah, we're ready," Wonder Girl added.
"Good. Since you're both suited up, head out now. Take the bioship—and remember, recon only. No matter what you see or hear, do not engage. This place is heavily guarded, so under no circumstances should you go in." His emphasis made it clear that this wasn't just a guideline; it was law. Both heroes nodded, then quickly ran to the bioship and took off toward their destination.
-Later, Upon Landing-
The bioship touched down smoothly, and Blue Beetle and Wonder Girl swiftly exited, making their way to the target building. They set up surveillance, using sound equipment to listen in. For about two hours, they heard nothing of note—until something caught their attention.
"It's your shift to take over the prisoner. It's time to interrogate her. Black isn't here to punish her if she refuses to cooperate, so you're in charge. Today's her three-year anniversary... make sure to celebrate it." The voice was accompanied by a maniacal chuckle that sent chills down their spines.
"Yes, sir," another voice replied. Afterward, only the sound of boots marching away echoed in the air.
Blue Beetle and Wonder Girl exchanged wide-eyed looks.
"They have a prisoner..." Blue Beetle whispered.
"We have to get her out. You heard what they said—they're going to hurt her!" Wonder Girl said, her voice full of conviction.
"But Nightwing said—"
"Screw what he said. We're getting her out," she cut him off, her tone deadly serious.
After a tense moment, Blue Beetle finally nodded in agreement. Together, they moved closer to the building, ready to rescue the one person who might just be the key to bringing their leader back to the person he used to be.
