Ch 19: Masquerade Ball

Daniel's POV

I am sitting in my office when Athena charges into the room. "WHAT is the meaning of this?!" She practically screams. In her hand I see a white envelope with golden trim and swirls along the side.

"What is it?" I ask.

"Read it for yourself." She says as she throws the envelope onto the middle of my desk. I look at it like if I touch it I will be poisoned. I family pick up up and lift the top of the envelope. Athena had already broken to see what's inside. I grab the thick paper inside and read what it says.

"You cordially invited to the Black's annual Masquerade Ball.
It will be held on Saturday, February 27th 1313
Please wear formal black and white attire
Masks will be provided, you may bring your own.
Please consider bringing a Plus One."

I look under the printed writing and see someone wrote in pen. 'Please bring your family and any other guests that you would like'. I then look up at Athena and put the pieces together. If they are involved with Black-Star then they might know where Diana is or have her.

We sometimes get invited to balls and other large parties, but I usually don't go. I know that other pack members like going and so I send them instead. But, with Diana missing I am taking the same chance going with Athena and having something bad happening then not going and having something happen.

"Do you think that they have Diana?" I ask.

"I honestly don't know. Have you ever heard of the Black's annual Masquerade Ball before or been invited to a party by the Black's before?" She says. I shake my head. I know that lots of people throw parties around the end of February and the beginning of March to celebrate the nice weather, but I have never heard of this one before.

"I will ask Hunter or Jake to find out about them and see if they really have had balls in the past or if they are just making it up." She nods and I write a note to talk to them later. It is late and I don't want to wake them up with all that is happening.

"So who are you going to bring?" She asks.

"Well I know that I should go and bring Luke and Hunter. I can say Luke is for protection and Hunter goes to all events. Also no one notices him half the time so he should be able to find out some stuff about the others at the ball and what it is for." I pause to think about who should be staying behind. "You should stay here because if they have Diana and she hasn't been able to leave they must have good witches and guards to keep her there and you going there would be like handing you to them. Luke should stay here to help run things and to keep everyone else in line when I am gone. Zoey can decide if she wants to go." She nods.

As Athena leaves my office after talking to me some more that pixies come in.

"We are sorry to bother you, but we wanted to know if we could be of any assistance to the mission of finding Terra and her friends?" Starflower asks. Essence and Sugarplum look between themselves and are whispering.

"If some of you want to go to a ball that we just got the invitation for you can go. We believe that they have Diana and the others." I say to them.

"Well Sage and Thornrose should go for sure, and Essence can go also. Morningdew could be helpful also." Starflower says. Sugarplum looks unsure about something, and is shifting uncomfortably. "Is something wrong, sugar?" Starflower asks.

"Well I just thinking that we are used to having all of us and if something goes wrong and we don't have the right pixie with them something bad could happen." She whispers quietly. I can barely hear her and I have werewolf hearing!

"We could manage to sneak all of you inside the ball if you think that would be best." I say. Starflower looks at the others and they nod, well most do, Honeysuckle was too distracted with drawing invisible shapes in the air to listen. Sunrose taps her on the arm and whispers into her ear. Honeysuckle nods frantically then gets distracted again by something I can't see.

"Thank you for letting us help you." Starflower says and leaves with the rest of the pixies.

I continue to work on pack files and try to sort out the rouge problems. After I clear that pile I start to figure out the plan on how to rescue Diana and her friends, if the people that are running the ball even has her. Also if they do have her how will to get her out and how to find her and her friends. There are too many things to do and too much to risk if it fails. Sometimes I wonder who can manage to plan something that is complicated enough to stump even the most powerful of people.

I fall asleep at my desk while doing paper work. I dream of going through a building that is burning to the ground, there are people screaming and I can't do anything to help them. I can try to stop running to help them but I end up running faster and can't stop or slow down. The dream then switches so that I am in a box and the box is filling up with water. The water goes up to my head then stops. I start to look around to see that there is a person that doesn't have a face facing my holding a hose. The person points the hose at my and fires the water, it hits the glass and runs down it is tear streaks. Pooling at the top then quickly running down with a dripping sound once it hits the ground. The person is now gone and the room has gone dark. A dark pitch black that makes you feel empty. The glass begins to shrink and I have to bend down to fit, soon my head's under water. I can see ghosts of people walking back and forth in a white mist. I think 'is this what I was meant to do? Die?'

Sorry for not updating my keyboard stopped working but it should be better now. I honestly don't know what happened or how it got fixed.

Also what do you think his dream means?

Do you think that Diana is going to be at the ball?

Do you think the Black family is involved with Black-Star?

Are they making a big deal out of nothing?

I am thinking of ending the story soon to start on a new one. Stupid writers block!

Anime Meme of the day!

This explains why I can't write Zero without thinking of it as a person/anime character. In math my teacher will be like "we need a word answer" and I will still write 0 instead of Zero just because i associate the word Zero with a person/anime character. Also it explains why my guard is named N because I was too lazy to come up with a name and it is like L. PS if you watched Death Note N is not like L. Although lets say they both really love sweets and pastries.
