Down The Drain

I brushed my teeth furiously as I checked repeatedly to make sure sure that my fiance was asleep. He always loved to wake up early to do things like make breakfast for me, but for once, I wanted to do it for him. I smiled softly as I saw his sleeping figure in the bed. His sleepless eyes finally peacefully closed. His chest rose up and down in a slow, peaceful motion. His mouth was parted and a sliver of drool was hanging on the side of his cheek. The soft snoring that he made assured me that he was still asleep. I took off my engagement ring for a second, so I could wash my hands and face. Somehow, being the clumsy person I am (I know; we've all been there), I carelessly let my hands free and knocked the ring... down the drain. I had to take a minute to process what just happened, and before I could react.

What just happened? Okay full on Kyuri panic in three... two-

I clamped my mouth and screamed at the frequency that I'm sure only dogs could hear. I panicked and started looking around frantically to see if there was any way to get it up the drain.

"Kyuri? Where are you hon?" I turned to see my husband sitting up looking at me with those adorable groggy eyes. I smiled softly, "Just in the bathroom, hon." I pushed his chest softly on the bed and pulled the blanket over him, "Get some sleep, hon." I know that you had some rough days recently."

"I was hoping you would say that," he smiled, showing off the crinkles and wrinkled around his eyes. I laughed softly, "I'll wake you up when breakfast is ready." I kissed his forehead before heading back to the bathroom. Wow, I swear I'm a good actor sometimes. I sighed internally, "Just go through the day without it. Mark can help you find it later." I nodded to myself in defeat and went to the kitchen making breakfast.

I smiled in satisfaction as I plated the food and set it on the table. I walked over to the bed and nudged him and cooed softly, "Wakie wakie Mark."

His eyes fluttered as he smiled softly, "Morning hon." I smiled and pulled him up from the bed, "Hon, I gotta tell you something." He smiled and beat his chest softly, "Hit me." I laughed softly and gulped, "Umm, so about that engagement ring..." His face broke down slowly, "Yea?"

I coughed and looked down at my hands, playing with them, "I might've accidentally dropped it down the drain." I expected him to yell at me to be mad at me. To call me careless and stupid. But instead, he just laughed?

"Oh my gawd, Kyuri. You made it sound so serious that you wanted to not get married." He fanned himself from laughing too hard. I looked at him, quite a bit dumbfounded, "But I dropped it down the drain..."

"Show me where it is hon," he smiled and got up, stretching and yawning. I grabbed his hand and dragged him to the sink and pointed a flashlight and shone it down the drain trying to look around for it. "Ah! I see it!" I smiled in relief and I felt the anxiety leave the body. He turned off the flashlight.

"Don't worry about it baby. I can call Jackson since he owes me." I smiled softly, not exactly sure of what to say.

"Is that all you were worried about? A stupid ring?" he gave out a hearty laugh before taking his toothbrush and preparing to brush his teeth.

"Stupid? You made a big deal about it when you bought it," I frowned, remembering when he gave me the speech of how I should take care of it. He chuckled, "I only said it because I was hoping you wouldn't lose it. I guess that itself didn't work."

"Sorry honey. You know I'm clumsy no matter what you say." He laughed as he still continued to brush his teeth.
