Sadly, my day had finished. I loved my classes and I made a couple of friends, however none were as close as Rachael or Charlie. My mind was still a bit fuzzy about the whole Charlie thing, but I kinda just let it go. I walk through the front door of my dorm and threw my backpack lazily on the bench, and flop onto the couch, reaching for the remote. I turn the television on, and flick through all the channels.
"News. News. News. News." I blandly say, the channels moving.
"It's three o'clock, of course there's nothing but news." Charlie says, calling from his room. I jump at the voice. When did he get there?
"I didn't know you were home.."
He chuckles as he walks out of his room. "I gathered. Have a good day?"
I nod as I turn the television off, turning around and seeing Charlie. "Chad and I got back together."
He smiles as he walks closer, but it wasn't like the other 'happy' smiles. It was more... forced. "Did you apologise?"
I shake my head, but come to think of it, none of us did. He didn't apologise for flirting with a girl! Oh that sneaky bugger.
"Don't tell me... Did Mr Chad Johnson actually apologise to you?" He asks, dumbfounded.
"Not really... He kinda used a stupid pick up line and said he'd never meant to hurt me."
He shakes his head at me. "You're so naive, Olive!"
"But I also heard something today..." I start off, wanting to bring up what Rachael said to me. "Actually never mind."
He struts over to me and sits on the couch, a gift wrapped in paper, situated in his hand.
"Well, as a housewarming gift, I thought I'd get you something. It's just a 'thanks for being a friend-slash-roommate' gift." He says, handing me the gift.
"No! I didn't get you anything!" I said, pushing the present away.
"It's fine. Just open in!" He says.
"But-" I said.
"I'll tell you what to do for me. Just open it."
I bring the present into my lap and untie the ribbon. It was a box, waiting to be opened. I pull the top open to see a beautiful silver necklace, with a small horseshoe charm. It was beautiful!
"Charlie..." I whisper, pulling it out of the box.
"I thought it could be lucky charm. Just make sure it isn't upside down." He smirks, taking the necklace from my hands. "I'll put it on for you."
I instantly pull my hair to the side, and feel a shiver as the cool necklace touches my skin.
"Charlie.. Did you buy this for me for being a friend, or because you ..." I start.
"I what?" He asks, clicking the necklace in place.
"Or because you like me." I finish.
He chuckles as he turns and faces towards me. "Where'd you hear that?"
Whoa, that was not the reaction I expected. "Uh, Rachael heard from Luke who heard from Gordie. Gordie and you were on the phone -"
"Notice how things get tangled when people play Chinese Whispers. Gordie said to me, "I know you like Olivia, Charlie." But it was in a friend way. I swear." Charlie explains.
A wave of relief runs through me. Thank God, I don't think I could've dealt with that; a boyfriend and a roommate who likes me. Just sign me up for Days of our Lives.
