“Oh my fucking God, you are!” I say, slapping a hand across my mouth. “Sarah, it’s going to be fine. I’ll support you, a-and I’ll be the Godmother, a-and-”

“I’m not pregnant.” She says, shaking her head. “What made you think that?”

“Oh.” I say. “Uh, nothing. I’ve just read too many romances lately.”

Her eyes zone in one me, and I felt my goddamn eye twitch. “Liar.”

“Charlie said it before, and it kinda stuck with me.” I admit, sipping my coffee. “Anyway, what’s wrong?”

“I didn’t know who else to go to.” She rambles on. “I’d tell the others, but they’re in Australia. I can’t go back to Australia.”

“Tell them what?”

She sighs, rubbing her temples. “I might’ve dropped out of college.” She admits shamefully, staring at her coffee. “I was sick of learning crap I didn’t need to know.”

“You took a law course, right? In Australia.” I ask. “I told you to come with me to London to do the English course at Lonsdale! I told you from day dot-”

“Authors don’t need law.” Her voice mimics me. “I would’ve.” She says. “But my parents didn’t want me to stay in London -”

“So you dropped out of college when?”

“The day I found out you were in a coma.” She says. “I wasn’t thinking straight. I did the paperwork, however it was a blur. I just wanted to be near you, and I wanted to make sure you were okay.”

“And you told your parents when?”

“Last night.”

“You waited that long?”

“Yeah.” She admits. “My parents told me to never come back home.”

“Sarah…” I say in disbelief. “That’s not like your parents at all!”

“They wanted me to become a successful lawyer.” She admits, twirling her hair with her finger. “I didn’t want to disappoint them.”

“You haven’t disappointed them, alright?” I say. “Get that thought out of your head right now.”

“But I have!” She shouts back, causing a few bystanders to look at us.

“Got a problem?” I snap at them, and they scowl as they continue with their activities. I turn back to Sarah, lowering my voice a tad. “Sarah, you haven’t. You’d be disappointing them if you didn’t pursue your own dreams.”

“But my dreams and their dreams are polar opposites!”

“They’re living their own dreams, you’re going to have to live your own.” I say, sipping my coffee. “Just take Charlie and I for example. I’m staying here; he’s leaving to go to France. We’re pursuing our dreams, and we are happy for each other.”

“But-“

“They’re happy for you, Sarah.” I cut her off.  “It might take them a while, but they are.”

She replies with a grunt and a sip of her coffee.

“Hey, I’m happy for you though.” I smile. “What’s your first story going to be about?”

“I’m writing it at the moment.” She says, her hostility turning into something opposite. “It’s about us. You and Charlie, Gordie and I-“

“What about you and Gordie?”

“Er.” She stumps, biting the inside of her cheek. “Er, well…”
