4. Saved By The Bell
*Seven Months Before
The month passed by soundly after the food fight incident. It took about four hours to wipe, scrub, and clean the entire cafeteria, which also meant that I had to spend four hours of my life with those people, listening to them blame me, insult me, and whine about how food was getting in their hair.
Four. Freaking. Hours.
Needless to say, I will never, ever be involved in any activity that concerns sloppy and/or sticky objects being thrown at any living thing.

Monday chemistry classes are the worst. To make it even worse than it already was, I had it in first period. Right, because everybody wants to learn how to balance chemical equations while they were nostalgically thinking about the weekend.
Which was what I was doing, by the way, until someone interrupted my thoughts.
“Zoe, are you even listening?” I heard a shrill voice say. Oh crap.
“Yes I am Madame.” I replied courteously to where the thin middle-aged woman stood in front of me.
She eyed me suspiciously, and I thought that she would ask me a question to see if I really was listening. But instead, she just glared at me and looked away. She then continued rambling about how intramolecular forces were stronger than intermolecular forces and yadda yadda yadda.
The bell rang not too soon after that, but before I could leave the classroom, I saw Brent coming towards my direction. Oh no. We hadn’t exactly talked since the cleaning incident. Okay, that was a lie, because he usually asked me about homework and such, but apart from that, we haven’ really talked talked.
I started moving towards the door quickly, but he was fast, and he blocked the exit.
“We need to talk.” He said seriously.
Damn it.
Just fully realizing how close we were, my eyes snapped up to meet his deep, ocean blue orbs. He had that look on his face, the one that made me feel really weak whenever I saw it.
“About what?” I asked incredulously.
“I need to ask you something. Now come on. I’ll walk you to the tree.” He said, pointing his head towards the hallway.
I eyed him skeptically. “We’re in public, remember? People can see us. Anyway, where’s your clan?”
“They’re all in their classes, and we have free period next, so let’s go.”
