She's so beautiful.
Gorgeous blonde hair, soft looking skin, her lips are a light pink and her style... For someone who cannot see, it's pretty cool. I just wish I could see her eyes....••|••
"You've got to be kidding me." I whisper bitterly. "Kyle... I blame you; you had something to do with this, I just know it!"
"Man, pretty boy is one hard sleeper." Kyle notes out loud, which makes me want to slap him even more. "How's his chest? Soft? Hard? A little of both?"
"Shut up and help me out of this-" I go silent when Matt shifts.
"You did it." I hear Kyle's voice grow distant.
"Come back, please!" This time I'm serious. "Kyle! My glasses! I need my glasses!"
"Right! Sorry!" He dashes over to me, the wooden floor creaking as he did so. I feel him slide on the shades and I take a deep breath, not caring if that woke him up or not. The only one I have ever let see my eyes, is Kyle, and I don't plan on anyone else for a long time... I somehow maneuver around his body, slowly lifting myself off his and sliding off the couch. He sleeps like a rock, obviously... As soon as I get done getting dressed in my bathroom, I hear his phone go off.
"What?" He mumbles, sounding like his hand was going over his face. "Delivering! Now?" His voice inclines in sound and I can sense his body sitting upright. "I'll be there as soon as possible! Don't do anything." That's when I step out.
"Everything okay?"
"I gotta go!" I hear him collecting his bowl and beer bottle from last night. "A golden that was admitted is about to have her litter." I hear and feel a dash of wind sweep by me and his hands mess around in the sink.
"The big day, huh?"
"Yeah, you can say that." He chuckles and I hear a smile. "My trainee doesn't know how to take care of her.
"So I guess you gotta get down there." I add as he turns around real fast and bump heads with me. We both laugh for a few short seconds, before he gets back on the move.
"Thank you, for everything. I had an amazing time." I nod, making my way to the door. He stands next to me before I even realize it.
"I'm glad you came." I don't hide my disappointment of his quick leave.
"Hey, um, I don't do this often but uh, if you ever feel like having a drink with me I'm open anytime." I'm taken by surprise. "I'm just a loner and I never really get out... Except to the clinic, but I really enjoy your company."
"I'll keep it in mind...." I say, real low like.
"See ya?" Matt questions and I smile.
"See ya." After he leaves, I place my back against the door and smile. Matt Davidson. Who knew a guy could be so attractive without even knowing what he looks like.
"Look at you, day dreamin' about pretty boy." Kyle interrupts.
"You were here the entire time?" I look toward the table, aiming where his voice lead me to.
"I've been here, eating my cereal for a while." He smarts off. "You forgot I even existed? What has pretty boy done to you?"
"Nothing." I scoff, joining him for breakfast.
"Not yet anyway." Kyle murmurs but I pick it up. I slap the top of his head, and he pouts.***
"Grace!" My client Kailey comes into my office.
"Kailey! How are you?"
"I'm doing good. I brought Lila with me today." Kailey has been a customer of mine since I can remember. Since her father started losing his eyes sight, she wanted him to still be able to read his Sunday newspaper. Kailey has been talking to me about her daughter Lila, but I've never actually met her. I love children, but they sometimes don't love me.
"Hi sweety." I lower myself to the ground once I join them on the other side of my desk.
"Uh Miss Grace, I'm on the other side of mommy." Lila giggles and I know this is going to go south real quick.
"Sorry," I fix my position and actually face her this time. "I'm blind, Lila. Do you know what that means?"
"No."
"I can't see." I hate describing this to little kids, but I smile anyways.
"Mommy, am I gonna get this?" At the worry in her voice I reach out for her hand, but she pulls away from me. "I don't wanna get the disease!" She cries and I stand up. I have to turn away from Kailey and her daughter, so they don't see the tears.
"Grace, I'm so sorry." Kailey touches my shoulder.
"It's okay." I breathe, "I'm fine. She's just... Scared... Of me... And that's okay." I mask my voice to sound alright.
"I'm sorry, again." Kailey apologizes, but never says a word about it being wrong to Lila.
"I'll see you next Monday." I add, handing her the stack of brail newspapers for her father.
"Mommy don't get the disease!" Again not one word to Lila. Once I hear my office door shut, I fall to the floor and the tears start running down my face.***
"Horrible day." I complain to Kyle.
"Yeah?" He sounds distracted, and I hear noises in the background.
"You don't wanna hear this. Go back to your girlfriend."
"Grace? Wait-" I hang up before he can finish. Kyle was most likely with his girl of the week. I have been on him for years about his women problem.
I've been basically moping around since I came home early from work. Mrs. Penny allowed me to be excused once she found me bawling on my office floor. Being covered up to my neck with a blanket and in my sweats and hoodie, I felt the urge to have a little alcohol in my system. I've never really been a drinker, I mean I drank at collage party's, but not to the point of getting wasted. I can handle about a glass and a half... Maybe two beer bottles. But for once, I actually want to let go of this weight on my shoulders. Then I remember the offer that Matt brought up. Pulling out my cell phone, I conjure up all my courage and decide to toughen up.
Matt Davidson is gonna take me to a bar.
