"What on earth have you girls been up to?!" The school nurse shrieked as soon as they entered the small office.

The older woman quickly hopped out of her chair and rushed to Camila. The nurse took hold of her head and examined her chin. Her head was so close to Camila's that she was almost capable of counting the wrinkles the woman produced by frowning at her wound.

''It's not that bad.'' Camila murmered.

''Like hell it is.'' Lauren said.

"That looks pretty nasty but it doesn't seem to be deep enough to need stitches. But why are you so wet, Camila?" The nurse asked.

''Well because Lauren...''

''Poor child slipped on the wet floor when we were getting some water to clean Mister Harrolds classroom.'' Lauren interrupted with a assuring smile.

"Clean the classroom?! Hard labor!"

That wasn't how Camila would retell the story, but it seemed the better choice to avoid yet another detention.

The nurse turned to her supply closet shaking her head wildly in the process.

Camila hit Lauren on her shoulder with the back of her hand. ''You..''

"How do you feel?" Lauren asked the smaller girl, putting a hand on her shoulder and completely ignoring Camila's assault on her.

Camila shrugged, highly aware of the trace of heat the older girl's hand left as it squeezed her neck. "Just between you and me, things like these happen more often to me than you'd think. I actually think I'm starting to become numb to the pain." She said with a small smile.

Lauren wrinkled her eyebrows. "Why?"

Camila scraped her throat. "I'm pretty clumsy.. You know?" She whispered to the older girl.

"Oh really? I hadn't noticed." Lauren said dryly with her eyebrows raised.

Camila's mouth spread in a grin, it made the wound on her chin sting. She winced slightly. I guess she didn't become numb to pain after all.

"Really?" She asked surprised.

Lauren rolled her eyes. "No you dork, I've seen you fall to the ground enough times in the past years to figure out how clumsy you are all by myself."

Camila laughed but in the back of her mind the words 'in the past years' kept replaying. If she said this, it meant that it wasn't just Camila whom had been watching the other girl.

Somehow this mere thought gave her comfort.

''You watched me the past couple of years? You didn't even know me.'' Camila asked, slightly taken back. But before Lauren even had the chance to react to her question the nurse walked back to the two girls.

Lauren stared at Camila with a smug smile.

"Ok, now Camila, this is going to sting a little bit. But you already know that from the last time, don't you poor child?"

Lauren smirked at Camila and the younger girl felt her face redden again.

"Just get it over with." Camila instructed the nurse.
