Walking never felt so easy; but it all ended when I reached the front door of my apartment.
My keys jingle in my hands, and I drop them, but pick them up very quickly.
I turn the handle, and run in.
Silence.
I take a step further.
Complete silence.
It's quiet expect for the cars passing by on the outside. Rain drops start hitting the windows.
The noise fills the room very slightly.
tap,
tap,
ta-tap,
tap.
I run around the apartment. "Dan!"
"Dan!! I'm home!!!!"
Nothing, but the taps on the window.
At this moment, I'm not sure what to feel.
What am I looking for?
Things go missing all the time.
The tv remote, the other sock, the cookie that you left on the table.
But then there are times when things go missing and they never return.
So is that what this is?
Every single second Dan was missing felt like an hour.
And every hour felt like forever.
Forever felt like eternity.
In the corner of my eye, I see a piece of paper barely blowing away because of the open window.
I go over to it, and I don't even need to get too close to realize it's an address.
Not far, probably a couple miles.
I'd learned to be suspicious.
Something about this didn't feel right; I know it meant something for me to go to this place, but it didn't feel normal.
Didn't feel sane. Felt like if I went to this place, everything would go wrong.
Probably getting upset over nothing.
"Let's see how this goes." I say to myself.
