People have this preconceived notion of who I am and it's interesting. It's like voting for who you want to win the oscars, and you've never even seen the movie.

My name is Noah Avery, by the way. If you don't know who I am, that's perfect. That means that you didn't read the first book in this saga, which, to be frank, doesn't paint me in the best light.

No, don't go read it now. It's better if we get a fresh start. I'm pleased to have this fresh opportunity to try and convince you that I am NOT a jerk. Or an ass. Or a shithead.

But most of all... ENJOY!

The abominable sound of the doorbell went off, making me jolt awake. I groaned loudly, causing Miranda to stir in her sleep. I ran my hands through my hair, gazing over at the clock that hung over my door.

"What the he-" I was cut off by another rung of the bell, then more urgent knocks.

I threw the sheets off of me, pulling on some boxers and pants as I descended the hall. I slung the door open, now mad as hell that someone woke me up. "WHAT?!" I yelled, but soon regretted it as soon as I saw who it was.

"Is that any way to treat your Mother?" She asks, pushing past me.

"Oh, yeah, just come right in I wasn't doing anything," I muttered sarcastically, slamming the door shut.

She made her way to my tiny living room, sitting on the black leather couch, and I followed behind her, sitting on the recliner. "Noah," she breathed, and I couldn't tell you how beyond annoyed I was.

"Yes, my one and only lady love?" I answered, pulling on a forged smile.

"What are you doing with yourself?" She asked, ignoring my joking, her red hair falling gracefully over her bare shoulder.

"Mom," I groaned, throwing my head back. "You came allll the way over here, waking me up out of my peaceful slumber to ask me that?"

This time, it was her turn to groan. "No, baby, I mean..." She trailed off, biting her lipstick coated lips. "I'm worried about you, Noah."

"Why?"

"Because! Your brother is a teacher, he's getting married, he actually went to college-" I cut her off abruptly, standing to my feet.

"I went to college!" I yelled, defending myself.

"You got kicked out on your first day, it must be some sort of record! Tell me, how does one accomplish that?" She asked, raising a perfectly arched eyebrow.

"He was fucking with me." I shrugged, she shivered, like she did when anyone curses. She hates vile, repulsive words. Her words, not mine.

"I just, I don't want you to waste your life away doing nothing." I rolled my eyes, walking around the open island, pouring myself a glass of orange juice.

"I just so have you know, I've been doing plenty of things, okay? My life is not wasted." I took long swigs of the juice, watching her stand up from her place on the couch.

"Oh really?" She asks, and the doubt in her voice made me twitch. "Like what?" I just shrugged, sitting the cup down, and she leaned on the counter studying me with close scrutiny.

"Like..." I trailed off, shrugging again. "I've been doing stuff, Mom... Things."

"You always did have a way with words," she laughs, and I shoot daggers at her with my eyes. "And sitting around your apartment, watching porn, masturbating, and drinking beer hardly count as things in my book."
