For the first time since I've been here, I decided that I should go grocery shopping. I was tired of eating burgers and take out, so I thought I'd make myself a nice meal tonight.
"Noah?" A sweet, soft voice called from the next aisle over. I looked up swiftly, peering at a young blonde through the Twinkies and the Honey Bun boxes. When she really got to look at me, she gasped, and took off down the hall. "IT IS YOU!" She exclaimed, running towards me.
"Eliza?" I smirked.
"I didn't think I'd ever see you again!" She grinned, placing her sweater covered hands over her tiny face.
"Yeah, I didn't think you'd still be here either."
"Having a special dinner?" She asked, eyeing the things in my buggy.
"No, I was just- I had the night off so I decided to eat a real meal." At that, she laughed, falling into step with me as I walked. "You here with your sister?" I asked, trying to make conversation.
"No, actually, I came to get a candy bar because my sister has been craving it," she shrugged. "So, oh my god! Do you like it here?"
"It's cool," I answered. "I still wanna go home sometimes though."
"Then why don't you?" She asked.
"Because my Mom would kill me!" I exclaimed, and she laughed. "How's your modeling going?" I asked her.
"I got a job at American Apparel, which is close, because sometimes they photograph employees for their website." I grinned at her, trying to hold back my laughter.
"Well, I don't exactly know how to kick off a modeling career but that sounds about right."
"Who are you having over for dinner?" She asked, and we made our way to the check out counter.
"No one."
"You don't have a roommate?" She asked, surprised.
"No, not exactly." She helped me load my things up and then chuckled.
"What does that mean?"
"It's my cousin's place, but it's not his place where he stays, so he's letting me stay there temporarily."
"So, basically, you're like in his basement?" She smiled, and I got money out of my wallet to pay for the food.
"No," I stated blandly. "Cause I'm not in his basement. He doesn't have a basement. He has a penthouse, and I have a shitty flat. To be honest, being in his basement would be an honor." She laughed wholeheartedly, throwing her head back, and I smiled at how beautiful she looked with her face lit up like that. "Let me get that," I said, paying for her little candy bar.
"You don't have to do that!" She says, and I shake my head.
"No, no, it's fine. Really."
"Thank you," she smiles gratefully.
Once we were outside, she started to walk down the slightly slow street with me. "Is this your way?" I asked her, the hot night wind blowing at my face.
"Yep," she smiles. "I'm just across the street." She points to a building at the end of the block, and then I realized how incredibly close by she lived to me. "So what are you making for dinner?" She asks, strolling beside me.
"A pasta," I answer, looking down at the bags in my hand.
"Wow!" She gushed, looking semi impressed. "You can cook like that?"
