*****My father was stood in front of me, eyes filled with anger, and his hands were clasped in front of him tightly. It had been a good ten months since I'd seen him, and here he was, the day before thanksgiving and he was angry with me?
"Your mom told me that I needed to talk to you," he sniffed in awkwardness. "So Luciana and I decided to stay a week; we can even have some father-daughter time. I mean, you've been askin' about spending time together, baby girl," his tone was bored and it seemed like he didn't really know what he was talking about.
"I haven't talked to you in almost a year; you have no idea what I want anymore," I rolled my eyes a bit.
"Calypso! Your father is really trying to make time for you. He traveled a long way to visit," my mother defended on the couch.
My hand found my chest in mock sympathy with a smile, "I'm so sorry that you have to make time for the children that you created. How selfish of me to ask you to pay attention to me!" My voice growing in hostility the more I spoke.
"Hey, that's not true! I love you and Sebastian. I flew in from Italy the second your mother called and said you needed me. I love you and I'd hate to see you mess up your life for some damn boy to spite me!" His blue eyes watered a bit.
"Spite you? To spite you!" I was yelling now and was close to crying. "I stopped caring about how to get your attention when you chose that Spanish slut over me!"
My father snapped his finger and pointed at me in pure indignation. My mothers mouth dropped as my words registered in her brain. I was shocked myself that I would speak like that in front of my parents.
"Don't you ever fuckįng talk about my wife like that! She's the one that convinced me to be here today instead of enjoying ourselves alone!" His voice broke in anger.
The room stopped and it seemed as if everyone was frozen as his words replayed in our brains. His what? His wife? He got married? Without inviting his son or daughter to the wedding? Did he really care so little about us that he wouldn't even announce his second marriage?
I sat down on the arm of the couch in deep thought as my hands covered my mouth and nose. Sebastian was the first to speak.
"What do you mean your wife?" His words were spaced in confusion.
My father sighed as he locked eyes with each of us in guilt. My head turned to see my mother let her tears fall. She choked on a sob in an attempt to be quiet but eventually speed walked out of the living room and up the stairs in embarrassment.
"Luciana and I got married three months ago. We wanted to invite you, we did, but it felt more comfortable to get married in private."
I scoffed and looked away from him. First, he left my mother and us alone with nothing but excuses and now he's gone and created a new life with another woman without even letting his kids know.
"Yeah, I'm so happy for you," I played with my fingers in my lap as I spoke quietly. A tear suddenly fell onto my thumb.
"Won't be long before she's pregnant and we don't get an invite to the baby shower. Or maybe she's pregnant now and you're hiding that, too," Sebastian stole the words out of my mouth.
