Maylee
Selena.
I slowed my pace as I approached the car, my gaze falling to my feet.
"Hey." Justin greeted as I slid into the back seat, since the passenger seat was obviously occupied.
"Hi." I murmured, setting my backpack on the floor.
"Hey, Maylee, I haven't seen you in forever." Selena beamed, turning around to face me.
"It's nice to see you again." I faked a smile, trying my best not to sound disappointed.
"I hope you don't mind if Selena comes with us, I promised I would take her out today." Justin smiled, almost sympathetically.
You promise too much.
"It's fine. Just drop me off at home." I replied as Justin nodded, starting the car back up.
The ride home was silent. I didn't mind because I wasn't really in the mood to talk. There wasn't much that had to be said, so we just didn't say anything at all. Though the tension between the three of us was clear as day.
"Thanks." I mumbled as I opened the car door, dragging my backpack along with me.
"Are you sure you don't want to come with us?" Justin stepped out from the car and leaned his arm on the top of the vehicle.
"You two go ahead. I have... homework to finish." I half lied.
Justin gave me an unsure look before swallowing. "Alright."
Turning back around, I moped towards the front door as I heard Justin's car drive away. It wasn't until I stepped inside that I realized it was raining out and that I was soaking wet. Yay.
Don't get me wrong, I think Selena is very sweet. But it's her attitude that gets in the way.
Justin and Selena have been together since I could remember, six months maybe. At first, she was very nice to me. We were very close the first few weeks. Then Selena started seeing me as a threat. She thought that I would try to take Justin away from her. We hung out less and less, until the point where we barely ever talked to each other. Justin began to grow suspicious, but I guess Selena manipulated him into think something else.
Being Justin's best friend, he liked taking me everywhere with him, if that meant as just two best friends or me having to be a third wheel. He always wanted to make sure that I had enough fun in my life as he did. I never liked people pitying me, but I didn't want to just come out and say no to his face. I have very bad guilt, I always feel bad for doing the wrong thing. Most of the time, I'll just come up with an excuse, like what happened earlier.
I slowly dragged myself up the stairs, planning on taking a hot shower after. I could hear the pouring rain now pounding on the rooftop like a thief trying to break in. It frightened me a bit, but I had grown used to it.
Dropping my backpack off in my room, I took off my jacket and threw it into the hamper, as I would not be wearing it again for a while. At least my shirt wasn't as wet. I really despised wet clothing. They were just uncomfortably clingy and heavy.
After stripping off my damp clothes, I stepped into the shower and turned on the hot water. No matter what the weather outside, I always took showers with steaming water. It just seemed to relax me more than lukewarm water. The shower was a place where I did most of my thinking. I know, it's odd. But it's very true. I often just think to myself. Most of the time about Justin, but other times I make life decisions. Go ahead, laugh at me. It's a lot easier to think in the shower than outside, with all the noise and chaos, it's quite hard to concentrate.
All of a sudden, I heard the front door slam shut and footsteps coming upstairs. It couldn't be my parents, they usually weren't home at this time. I grew suspicious of the situation, so I slowly turned the showerhead off. I had been in the shower for like an hour anyways, it was time to get out. I wrapped my body in a towel before slowly opening the bathroom door, taking a quick peek into the hallway. The coast was clear.
I shuffled quickly towards my room which was only a few doors down the hall. When I turned the corner into my room, I almost jumped out of my skin. "Justin," I gasped, catching his attention, "what are you doing here?". To say I felt uncomfortable was an understatement, Justin was in the same room as me while I only had a towel on.
"I left for five minutes." Justin bursted out, lashing his hand in the air, "and I see her kissing another guy." He paused, running a hand through his hair in frustration.
"Justin, could you let me change first, then we can talk." I spoke, motioning for him to step out of the room. He murmured a quite yeah, before walking out of the room and shutting the door behind him. Who was he talking about? Could it be Selena? I wouldn't be surprised if it was.
I quickly slipped on comfortable clothing, since I wouldn't be going out again today, hopefully. Knock on wood. I walked over to the door and opened it, to see Justin leaning against the wall in front of me. "Done?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. I nodded and waved him over, preparing myself for what he was about to say.
Sitting on the ground beside my bed, Justin sat opposite of me on the floor. We didn't say anything for the first few minutes, I don't know why. I guess it was just a topic that was hard to bring up, when your girlfriend cheats on you. Or, at least that's what I assumed happened to Justin.
"What happened?" I finally spoke, breaking the silence.
Justin inhaled and exhaled a big breathe before playing with his fingers. "I was taking Selena to see a movie and these fans wanted to take a picture with me." He explained like there was nothing wrong with the scenario, which there wasn't. Yet.
"I left Selena for a few minutes to give my fans what they wanted, and when I came back," Justin paused and I could tell he was trying very hard not to cry, "sh-she was with another guy." he finished, his voice softly breaking.
I swallowed the lump in my throat before looking down at my lap, trying to come up with something to cheer him up. "So, what did you do?"
"I left."
