Haunted by Taylor Swift

          Maylee

I still do not fully understand what happened that night Justin walked out. He left no explanation, no apologies. Never in my life, and I mean never, have I ever seen Justin do that to someone. Sure, he may seem like a tough and daring guy, but that's only what he masks himself as. I know his weaker self, the one that comes out whenever he isn't around his friends. He isn't really as popular and superior as he thinks he is in my world. In my mind, he's just another one of my friends. Maybe even more.

Turns out, my mom was right about getting our new neighbor. But it was a few days later that they actually moved in. They were supposed to have been here on Friday, but I guess they just needed more time to finished packing, or something of that sorts.

I was on my way out of the house to check the mail, after I had been in my room for at least three hours. I saw the big moving truck next door with the trunk open, but no one was nearby.

When I reached the mailbox, I had a clear view inside of their garage. They had a large 49ers poster on the wall, which surprised me. My family was also a huge fan of the Niners, even though they were from California. There was a nice white Cadillac parked in their garage and a beige couch lined against the wall, facing the car. Yet not a single person was in sight. I proceeded with my task, closed the mailbox after I retrieved the mail, and began walking back to the front door. Bills, bills, and some letters from who knows where.

"Mom, the new neighbors are here." I said loudly right as I shut the door, making sure she heard it from wherever she was in the house. She didn't reply, which confused me. She always jumps at the chance of meeting new people, especially neighbors. After dropping the mail off on the kitchen counter, I then realized that it had been unusually silent for quite a while in the house. This never happens at the Masten residence.

"Mom?" I said as I scanned the halls and rooms, noticing no one in sight.

I was beginning to worry, but that wasn't long until I saw a figure outside the window. I stepped closer to the window and recognized the lady as my mother, my birth giver, mother of me, whatever you want to call her. She was standing outside with a few others, I'm guessing the neighbors. Wow, she's fast.

I wasn't really in the mood to talk to anyone, but I'll try my best to make the neighbors' first day here at least pleasant. After almost tripping down the stairs from how fast I was scurrying down them, I headed for the front door. I quickly slipped my sandals on and walked out the door, ready to meet the new neighbors. My mom was still talking outside with them, often pointing around the neighborhood to show certain things. I swear, I could hear her from Washington, she was so loud. She tends to get loud when she's excited or happy, I don't know why.

"Maylee, there you are." My mom said, causing me to jump a little, even though I was walking towards her and I should've seen it coming. "Meet the Carters', they just moved in next door."

"I know, that's kind of why I came over here..." I nodded slowly, showing her that she had just explained the obvious.

"This is Teresa and David," My mom signaled to the two parents, both of which were smiling widely at me. I shook their hands politely and as I did, I noticed a rather handsome boy standing next to them. "And this is their son Jason. You two are around the same age, right, 17?"
