Song Of The Chapter

"Has Justin talked to you yet?" Paige asked for the fourth time today, as she turned the corner into our sixth period class, the last class of the day. It was a full schedule day so I had all six classes today, unfortunately. Our sixth period class was Spanish. It wasn't very challenging for me, but I wasn't the best speaker either. I was, about average.

It had been a full two weeks since the night Justin walked out, and he hasn't made contact with me once; not including the time I caught him doing the unthinkable. To say I was hurt was an understatement. You can't just walk out of someone's life without an explanation. Maybe I did do something wrong, but you can't just make someone feel so loved and special, then just leave them. It wasn't right.

When I left Justin after I found him in the alley with his 'friends' doing drugs, it left me with a whole new impression of him. It felt like my best friend had changed just like that, which he did. In the blink of an eye, Justin had turned into this completely different person, and I'm not sure I knew who he was anymore. He's rude and careless, the complete opposite from the Justin I knew. To this day, I am still utterly confused by his behavior.

"No..." I sighed, taking my seat in the back of the classroom. I was seated next to Jason, fortunately. We had grown very, very close. We were like best friends, almost. He was definitely charming, I'll say. He never fails to surprise me or make me laugh, even when I'm feeling miserable. I don't know if this is a good thing, but I've developed a crush on Jason. Who am I kidding, crushes are for middle school. You either like him, or don't. But I guess it's safe to say that I like Jason, a lot.

Our agenda today was a lesson, then a short quiz. Nothing really out of the ordinary. I never struggled in this class so these last 50 minutes of school will pretty much be at ease.

"Go ahead and discuss with the person sitting next to you, the activity on page doscientos veintiocho(228)." Our teacher explained in her somewhat understandable accent. She liked to include a lot of rudimentary Spanish in her directions, seeing as everyone should know the words by now.

I opened my textbook to the page and began to talk about it with Jason, not finding much excitement in the activity, but in Jason himself. His cadence voice flowed so smoothly, I could listen to it all day. I often find myself asking him a random question, just to hear his humor and creative answers. He was like an open thesaurus, always including a different type of joke or synonym in his sentences. His charisma was hard to explain. He was pretty much that one boy in school who has the looks, the brains, and the humor. I loved guys who could make me laugh, it just makes my world 100 times better.

"I can't wait to go home." I yawned quietly, earning a chuckle from Jason as he agreed.

"Only 40 more minutes." He added, heaving an exaggerated sigh. I smiled to myself, hoping Jason hadn't seen me. I've blushed a few times and smiling to myself was just another habit whenever I'm around Jason. I can't help it, he's just the kind of person that you can never really be serious around, most of the time.

It was during the last twenty minutes of class that the classroom phone rang, interrupting all the students of our quiz. I heard the teacher speak a quiet 'hello?' before I continued with the last few questions of the quiz. She said a few words after, short answers, then hung up the phone and cleared her throat. "Maylee, you need to go to the office."
