Mike managed to miss the bullet by dropping to his knees at the last second. Laura was so surprised that Mike was able to get up and run into his house before she had the chance to fire a second bullet.
"M-Mom!" he cried. She came into the hallway from the living room.
"What's wrong?!"
"We need to call the police."
"Why?!"
"Micky is a-abused, Mom, a-and his mother has a gun."
Rebecca still looked surprised and confused, but she nodded. Mike ran to their phone and quickly dialed 911.
"This is 911 what's your emergency?"
"M-My friend's mom is abusive and has a gun, I'm a-afraid she's gonna hurt him."
The 911 operator asked for an address and Mike gave it to him. He stayed on the phone until police cars arrived.
Laura was arrested and Mike came outside as she was being put into the back of a police car. An officer came up to Mike and began to speak with him.
"We found a dried pool of blood in a bedroom, but no traces of your friend."
Mike explained how he took Micky to a friend's house earlier that morning. The officer asked to be taken to Paul's house and Mike gladly obliged.
"It's all gonna be okay, Micky...It's all gonna be okay..."
